Question about 2002 Mercury Sable

1 Answer

My 2002 Sable has a total of 25000 miles. It has been in storage for the past seven years, with only 3000 miles contributed during that period. I am not able to start it now. Apparently battery is charged, but starter will not turn motor when engaged--just makes repetitive clicks when switch is engaged. Is some way available to manually turn the engine to see if it is free? Would removing spark plugs result in lighter load for starter to at least spin the engine?

A battery is only good for 5 yrs, if its used every day. id assume you need a good hot battery because yours does not have the cold cranking amps to turn the car over. have it tested at autozone. if thats not the issue , then the motor is locked up from not being used. seized

Burning oil 2001

Usually the problem is piston rings. But it could also be something going on with the PCV system.
It could even be something as simple as changing the brand or weight of oil you are using.
Two quarts of oil in 3000 miles is not a huge amount, so it may be tough to find the cause. One quart with every tank of gas would be alot.

Mercury Sable auto headlights on off switch troubleshooting

More than liekly it isn't your switch. You have a ambient light sensor (sometimes called a photocell or amplifier) that detects how dark or light outside which in turn turns the lights on or off. this sensor is located under that "grille" just below the windshield. Sometimes water can stand in there and cause that sensor to go faulty. I say it's that in most cases because a switch, if it goes in most cases it just goes period. It is a fairly common problem also. Hope this helps....

How often should I change the oil in my 2002 Nissan Frontier?

Some people change oil at 3000 miles, most people don't really care or keep track
I would say 3 times a year,if you drive less than 10,000 per year
4 times a year ,up to 20,000 miles per year driven
Use at least semi or full synthetic oil

Oil consumptiom

Figuring off of national standards thata gasoline engine is allowed to burn 1qt. of oil every 2,000 miles tthey would be correct. But That is not to say for that particular engine providing that oil has been changed every 3000 miles,There could be other problems contributing to your car,for instance cklogged pcv valve, leaking injectors or fuel preasure regulator both can cause fuel contamination to engine oil (Dillution) Thins oil too much,or overheat condition,or failed cat convertor. With this in mind talk with another Nissan dealer if only by Phone.

You're approaching 120k miles, and usually a timing belt would be due around every 60k, so you should prepare for that. That's the really comprehensive service that includes a LOT of parts and labor - timing belt, tensioner, accessory belt(s), spark plugs, all fluids, all filters, water pump, thermostat, full inspection, tire rotation, etc.
