Replace front axle what tools are needed on a 2003 mitsubishi outlander i have a lot of noise from left ft i've had wheel bearing replaced and it's still has a lot of noise at speed when the wheels are rotating

Wrenches. tire tool. hammer , pliers , a jackstand or blocks to support the vehicle. a jack to manipulate the lower control arm . air compressor and air impact wrench and a socket ( metric and usually a special size ) available at Auto zone for rent
which is refundable when you take it back ( so its free )
the sad part is that the driveshaft just pulls out of the transmission, and slips back in with a little effort. all held in place with 1 special nut. the bad part is that this PROCEDURE IS DANGEROUS because removing the lower balljoint lets the TENSION from the strut assembly FREE and can hurt you or even kill you. Please exercise caution. this task can be accomplished with minimal effort and a few tools.

Turning right and having a loader noise, means the left/drivers side is bad. Turn right, more pressure on the left side. and vice versa.

It's a good chance that it's either wheel bearings or the CV joints.

It very well could be the strut.
smaller chance could be the CV axle.
Also have the splash guards/heat shields checked to make sure they are all tight in place.

Need to replace 2003 corola front wheel bearings. need step by step instruction please


Removal & Installation To Remove:

  1. Remove the front wheel.
  2. Remove the front axle hub nut.
  3. Disconnect the front stabilizer link from the strut.
  4. Disconnect the speed sensor (with ABS).
  5. Remove the front brake caliper and rotor.
  6. Disconnect the tie rod end.
  7. Remove mounting bolts and nut and separate the lower control arm from the ball joint.
  8. Using a plastic hammer separate the front axle shaft from the hub.
  9. Remove the 2 mounting bolts from the strut. Remove the knuckle and hub assembly.
  10. Remove the lower ball joint from the knuckle.
  11. Remove the axle hub snap ring from the knuckle. toy_car_cor-02-04wheelhub2.gif

  12. Remove the axle hub from the hub bearing using special tool 09520-00031 or equivalent hub puller.
  13. Remove the inner race from the axle hub using special tool 09950-40011 or equivalent puller.
  14. Remove the dust shield from the knuckle.
  15. Remove the axle hub bearing from the knuckle using special tool 09520-00031 or equivalent and a press.
To Install:
  1. Install the axle hub bearing on the knuckle using special tool 09950-600020 or equivalent and a press.
  2. Install the dust shield on the knuckle with 3 mounting bolts.
    • Tighten 73 in-lb (90 Nm).
  3. Install the axle hub on the knuckle using special tool 09950-600010 or equivalent and a press.
  4. Install the axle hub snap ring.
  5. Install the lower ball joint on the knuckle.
    • Tighten the ball stud castle nut 76 ft-lb (103 Nm).
  6. Install a new cotter pin.
  7. Install the knuckle on the strut with the 2 nuts and bolts.
    • Tighten 162 ft-lb (220 Nm) (except '03-'04) 113 ft-lb (153 Nm) ('03-'04).
  8. Lift the knuckle and hub assembly over the axle shaft and into the hub splines.
  9. Install the lower control arm on the lower ball joint.
  10. Connect the tie rod end to the knuckle.
  11. Connect the stabilizer link to the strut.
  12. Install the front rotor and brake caliper to the knuckle.
    • Tighten the 2 caliper bolts 79 ft-lb (107 Nm).
  13. Install the ABS sensor if equipped.
  14. Install the front axle hub lock nut.
    • Tighten 159 ft-lb (216 Nm) and stake the lock nut.
  15. Check the axle hub backlash and run-out.
  16. Install the front wheel.
  17. Check the front wheel alignment and adjust if necessary.

Grinding noise in 2001 cavalier 2.2 engine replaced left front hub noise is still there. how difficult to replace left cv joint?


If you still think the noise is coming from the left side CV joint it would be more advisable to replace the entire axle as an assembly. For the time and effort it takes, you can usually get a rebuilt axle assembly for only a few dollars more than the CV joint and the boot required to repair one. You will need a large axle nut socket (usually 30 - 32mm) to remove the axle nut. The lower ball joint and tie rod will need to be separated along with the brake caliper and rotor, from the spindle. I would recheck the grinding noise before doing it. A lot of wheel bearings are mistakenly diagnosed to the wrong side. If the noise is loudest when turning left, most people would assume the left side wheel bearing is at fault. However if the noise is loudest turning left it indicates the right side wheel bearing is most likely at fault. Due to the weight distribution of the front end, turning left the weight all transfers to the right side, loading that bearing. Make sure thats not the case before tackling an axle.

How or where do I find info to replace front wheel bearings


Timken bearing assembly is what you need. They actually make this all sound so difficult but let me tell you how I just did the same job on my Murano 06 AWD that uses the same type of assembly.
Remove the axle bolt then the wheel, caliper & bracket to remove the rotor. Support the caliper by hanging it from the the strut spring. From the back side, you should be able to remove the speed sensor and if on that model the bolts come froom the back side, there should be just enough room to remove them. that is what holds the hub assembly in place, these aren't pressed into the vehicle, just mounted. I used an axle puller to remove the hub assembly once all of he bolts were loose & it wasn't necessary to remove the ball joint or axle. You need to push the axle through the hub assy & there is a rental tool you can get for that. There was not any excessive pulling to remove the assembly, just tap, tap, tap & it was free, ready for the other to be installed. There is the possibility that you would have to drop the lower ball joint & tie rod end to get access but I didn't have that problem & I looked at your bearing, it looks identical. Good luck.

if its a front wheel drive it is easy it bolts to to the strut and control arm you could get away with just bearings

Replacing front left wheel bearing of chevrolet venture


before removning tire loosen lug nuts and axle nuts a little bit not all the way .to loosen axle nut you need a 1/2 inch break bar with deep socket or 1/2 battery power impact wrench.then raise vechicle use jack stands block rear wheels .then remove wheel disconnect wheel speed sensor .remove brake caliper and bracket then rotor .half shaft bolt.you need a tool remove front hub and bearings as a unit.from axle shaft.

Right-Front Intermediate Axle Shaft Bearing


I am assuming this is an all wheel drive. That being the case you probably have an axle CV joint going out. If you hear noise when making a sharp left or right turn and accelerating that would more than likely be the problem. And, yes this is a serviceable part. Easy to replace if you have the proper tools to accomplish the task. Good luck.
