EGR Valve or not?

Hi, I have a 2002 Dodge Stratus SE. It is a V6 2.7L how do I know if I have a EGR Valve or not? How can I check?

You have an EGR valve. For a specific location I recommend the Haynes repair Manual on your vehicle. This manual will also giving you testing procedures for testing the EGR valve.

I am getting codes p0403 and code p0506 on my 2001 dodge stratus se 6 cyl 30 what is the best possible solution to a quick fix because i need to pass emissions i have a newborn on the way in 2 weeks help...


check the EGR solenoid and check the EGR valve and hoses. the valve could be stuck open. repair of this will likely cause the low idle code to go away

Check engin light is on someting to do with egr


I would try replacing the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve first.

should be on the intake manifold should be a dish looking shaped part... go online and pul;l a pic of one up on a parts page to help identify... also check with Auto Zone parts house as they will give you a print out of its exact location and the part if they have it in stock.

The thermostat is located at the upper radiator hose end of the engine. The hose will connect to a housing that will have to be removed in order to change the thermostat.
While you have the thermostat housing removed, make sure you flush the old coolant out and replace with new.

Here are possible causes for this code.

  • EGR solenoid connector is damaged (check pins for damage, and moisture)
  • EGR solenoid control circuit is open or shorted to ground
  • EGR solenoid control circuit is shorted to voltage
  • EGR solenoid has failed
  • PCM has failed
