Car shuts down, will turn over and battery is good; fuel pump seemed to not be engaging; so we changed the fuel pump/filter; ran one day then when it gets hot the engine shuts off and won't turn over until it cools off? What to fix now? Signed Frustrated!

Plugs and wires are changed could it be an electrical problem? Will it be necessary to go to a garage and have it tested for the problem or is there something else that could cause this? Relay, dirty fuel injectors if so how to clean them? Heater coil? Grasping at help; car keeps me poor with repairs.

Do not change any part unless you have found the part suspicious. So when the car fails to repsond you must begin your test. If not put the car idling till the fault comes up, The start checking for the fuel or the firing. It will easier to find that either one of these can be the main culprit. So check this when you experience this fault. Check your plugs, if not go back to the distribution and the electrics in this section. Recheck if the fuel dries out when the engine heats up. Check for water/dirt in your fuel system. I am sure you will get the fault in here. Good day

I am so sorry that your car is a worry. But do not change the parts without a confirmation because if the part was fine we still end up in a loss. So get a friend to help out to clean up the injectors, perhaps your fuel pump/ injectors once again. I presume it will be good to get someone to help you out to confirm on these. Good day

1994 Chevy Cavalier 2.2L will not start

The car won't turn over as in I assume when you turn the key the engine will not turn over??? Asking because that would never indicate needing to change the fuel pump or filter.

I would guess if it won't turn over and your battery was tested and passed as being good, you either have loose cables on your battery, a bad ground. Take the leads off the batter and clean them up good. Scrape the inside of the lead lead that bolts on to the battery and do the same with the battery post and then put the leads back on making sure you are able to tighten them down good. That's a start

Just had the 2000 Buick oil changed on Friday, been driving fine then just now kind of sputtered like it wasn't getting gas, after turning it off and then turned it back on ran fine. Could this be fuel...

i would check the fuel filter before anything else. a fuel filter will block fuel flow if dirty, then when shut off the dirt settles to bottom of filter. upon restart its fine till the dirt gets in the filter again. it wll also cause car to bog down if dirty, especially on hills or grades. it will be slow on take off and may stall out at a stop. if bad enough. have a good day !!

My son bought a 1988 Jeep Comanche 2.5l 4 Cylinder. Ran great for a few days then stopped. Turn over & fire but not getting any fuel. Seems no power to fuel pump. Could it be caused by the solenoid that...

Check fuel pump for power...Check fuel pump relay in power distribution center (they often have same # relay used in several applications, You can borrow one from a non-essential system and just swap it to do a quick check.) Also, I would change the fuel filter. If plugged, the pump may be shutting down early (and it's a good maintenance item even if it has no effect on problem.)

2000 grand am- wont stay running

It Sounds Like A Fuel Supply Problem. Which Means It Might Be Your Fuel Pump. Check Your Fuse's And Battery Connections Before You Start Getting Into Dropping The Tank And Replacing It.. I Had A 94 mercury That Would Run In The Winter But Would Shut Off While Im Driving Down The Road In The Summer. When It Would Shut Off I'd Listen To My Car. Turn The Key On For 4 Seconds And Off for 2 and Have Someone Listening To The Gas Tank. The Pump Should Make A Constant Tone. If The Tone Changes up and down or if you hear grinding. theres your problem. a basic electric fuel pump for a car should turn on for 3-5 seconds and shut off when you turn the key on. NOT STARTING IT.

Ran out of gas

Hi you need to change your fuel filter on your car as it is probably clogged with dirt as the car ran so low.
It is fitted under the car near the fuel tank.
Change your fuel filter first then check the fuel pump fuse as it may be blown as well if the pump was not able to pump fuel.
It should be a humming or hissing sound at the tank.
