Question about 2002 Pontiac Montana
General motors. i'm not familiar with the montana, but general motors uses a black resistor in the key that works with the vats. if that's the case, your key pellet might be dirty. another problem could be the gearshift cable is incorrectly adjusted or loose, and it isn't actually putting the transmission in the correct spot ( P ) making it hard to start. they also use a neutral safety switch that can be causing u problems.
when it does it again, try putting t into N to start it. if it starts right up, its a safety switch / or cable linkage adjustment needed.
