Re: replace stop light lens on nissan xterra 2005
Remove the inner trim panels , or access the light from the inside of the vehicle . thru storage doors in the back of the vehicle, look for wingnuts made of plastic and unscrew them. some cases require you to take spare tires out of those storage units on the inside of the vehicle. its also possible that if you raise the rear door, and look on the inside , righ by the light, sometimes there are retaining screws + THAT NEED TO BE REMOVED

Check the ECM relay. Nissan has a recall for that relay, for that year. You can swith the relay with your defogger relay which should be next to it. The relay box is located under the hood on the passenger side. Hope this helps. Here's a re call link.http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39850
To replace the brake light bulb for the Nissan xTerra 2002, remove the two bolts that anchor the light cover. A 10mm socket wrench fits. Then grasp the light cover with both hands and pull straight towards you. Be firm. It may groan but it will come out. The bulb assemply is then easy to access. When replacing the cover, simply repeat the process backwards. The light cover will snap into place, then replace the bolts
I have a 2005 Lexus Rx330 with HID AFS headlight. My passenger side light went out. I thought the bulb burnt out, so I bought a new bulb. After replacing the new bulb, it happened exactly like my old bulb. It light up lightly and then total black out. What's wrong with it? I thought the ballast burnt. I called Lexus dealer and asked for the new ballast/transformer. Surprised me, they don't know what is it. They told me they only know the wiring harness and the socket, but not the ballast ??????? Could you tell me what do I need to replace?
thode screws hold the lens or the light assembly? Allow for the whole tail light to come out and the bulb plug will be accessible. I never had the privilage. But how the lens fits will tell you. If the lens goes overthe edges, the whole unit comes out, lens is sealed. Good luck
After you remove the 2 bolts there is 2 cone shaped tensioners that help hold the taillight housing on. Grab the taillight firmly on the top and bottom, and pull it straight towards you until the tensioners pop. They will not be damaged and are made to pop in and out.
Then find the bulb housing of the burnt bulb, turn the housing clockwise, and remove the bulb housing, remove the bulb by pulling on the black base of the bulb only on the short sides on the housing. (DO NOT pull on the glass, as it may break in your hand). Then slide the replacement bulb into the housing (it can go in either direction), and repeat the steps in reverse order. to put the housing and taillight back on.
Be careful to tighten the taillight bolts by hand only, they have a plastic thread sleeve that is easily stripped by a drill.
I'm assuming the lens has never previously been removed and may just be plain old stuck.
I appreciate your reluctance to force it so I suggest spraying around the seal or faceplate with a lubricant such as WD40 a few times and leave it a day or so to see if it dissolves any dirt that may be causing it to stick.
Pop The Trunk And Inside The Trunk, Immediately Behind Where The Light Is There Will Be A Panel Of Carpeting Remove It. Then You'll Have Access To The Rear Of The Light Find The Burnt Bulb Grasp And Twist As You pull. Then Pull The Bulb From The Harness And Replace.
Assuming you are talking about the side marker bulb in the bumper, you need to get behind the bumper and un bolt the lens from the back side to change lens or if just bulb replacement twist socket counterclockwise to remove from lens and then change bulb. Keep in mind if the bumper has been hit this will be very difficult to do unless you loosen up bumper and pull out.
