Question about 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee was driving fine, stopped to eat and got back in and it would not start. All dashboard warning symbols came on. I checked the manual and it appeared that the engine had been flooded. I did what the manual said for flooding the engine and it started right up. I made another stop and it sat for an hour and then tried to start it again and it would not start. There is a symbol now on the dashboard that looks like a key with a circle around it and the line thru it. I do not have my manual with me now to look that symbol up. Could that be why it will not start now? Any ideas?

When u turn the key in on poistion do u hear the fuel pump come on it should prime up for three seconds it could be a weak fuel pump leaking down,or look on your key on the sliver part if u have a black piece with a sliver on it that could be wore out u have a extra set of keys try them an see what happens then.

Your Jeep has what's known as the delayed start, no check engine light problem. The Jeep will not start until the check engine light comes on, on the dashboard. Next time it cranks but will not start, look at the dashboard to see if the check engine light is illuminated. If it's not lit up, then your Jeep does have that problem and your Jeep ecu is in need of repair or replacement. There are components inside the ecu that are going bad and will continue to get worse, eventually leading to a permanent no start condition. There are ecu repair services and replacement ecus on ebay.

its possible that the fuel pump may have gone bad and needs replacing.have the fuel pressure and volume checked with a gage.fuel pumps go bad as sudden as a light bulb burns out without warning.

If they have not changed the design, the retaining spring is part of the "extinguishing bar" (where you put cigarettes out) the clip tends to lock in the down position and needs to simply be pushed back up to engage the retainer in the dashboard opening
