Question about 1998 Chrysler Sebring

1 Answer

My friend has a 1998 chrysler sebring with a viper 160xv remote start. Everything has worked fine until a few days ago when it would not start. In order to start it you have to have the key in the on position and then push the button on the remote. It will not start with the key alone or the remote alone it has to be both. Then when you turn the key off the car continues to run for about 30 seconds until it finally dies. I downloaded the install manual and looked through the troubleshooting and can't find any help there. All I know about remote starters is to avoid them, any ideas on where this problem could be?

The problem isnt with remote starters, or with viper products. the problem is with under qualified persons attaining products they have no qualifications to operate.
TAKE THE CAR TO A DEALER(VIPER ALARMS) and they can fix the problem.
remote start was designed for people who want to start their car from afar and could actually comprehend that the multifunction remote was not only a keyfob to lock a door , or start a car, but it is also capable of remotely accessing certain programming features of the viper alarm, and whilst in some goofballs pocket........while he was sucking down goldslager was unintentionally reprogramming the viper alarm, and setting it into various modes of operation.
your lucky you didnt accidentally program it into carjack mode. lmfao

But then, there are those of us who are competent to do these installs and set ups on our own, but are denied access to the simple manuals that are necessary to complete the job. Very annoying Viper!

I have a1998 blazer with a viper remote start and alarm system 160xv truck died going down road. Replaced icm and fuel pump.. no power to pump.. relay for pump good what would be my next step..

Take out the viper system. Repair wires as you go. First, no one wants to steal your truck. Second, aftermarket systems are lucky to live past 5 years. I take them out all the time.

Engine shut off after start with remote key

The car has to be locked down in order for the starter to function properly. Doors must be locked and the hood closed. The hood pin switch often gets corroded and has to be cleaned or replaced.

My 2000 Chrysler Sebring stops running. After a few minutes it will start again and run fine. This situation just started happenning a few months ago and is increasing in frequency

is the check engine light on??
i've done a few that had no light/codes.the most common problems are crank or cam sensor failures. really need to check when car stalls.
replacing crank sensor 6 mths ago & car has'nt had a problem. if you search these sensor on the sebring you'll find alot of info.

I have a 1998 sebring the transmission go in first not in second

We had a 1999 Sebring that would go up through the gears and shift fine until you stopped at a stop sign. Then it would hang in first until you turned it off then back on. Then it would shift normally until you stopped again. Turned out it was a bad speed sensor (not the one for the speedo). Speed sensor is located on the transmission and several years ago was a $20.00 part. I'm not sure if this your problem or not, just thought I'd share this with you.

Good Luck
