Question about 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

Car dies after driving through some water (it has been a week)

Drove through some standing water (5 inches or so high), and it ran just fine. 10 minites later it stalls on me. it starts just fine, but dies after a few seconds. no check engine light or anything else. if i rev the engine to about 3500 rpm or so it sounds like something catches, and it runs fine and i can drive approx 5 minutes and then it dies... I believe you have a motor from GM where your distributer is on the bottom and therefore your wires are wet as well as the distrib cap

That is as wrong as can be. There's no distributor on 97 Grand Prix's, with either engine.

Forget the sea foam
What exactly do you believe that would do & how?
How & where did water get into the fuel system
If it is in the tank, you have to remove it & clean it
If you ran out off fuel the pump may be shot
Did you check fuel pressure & volume at the motor
With fuel injection there is no bleeding to do, the fuel
& air goes into the cylinder when the injectors open

Now you can do the Fuel Pump

They seize up mechanically and fail
Electrically

Did you drive with a fuel pressure gauge,
taped to the windshield

Got a good fuel filter

Looking won't help you

Always do some type of testing,
before replacing anything

Keep it simple and replace the fuel filter first, if thr fiiler has not been replaced within 30,000 miles or 1 year. Then it's a good chance that it's going to be the fuel filter.

You may have gotten some dirty or rusty gas. Try blowing out your new filter, and see if it's good again. Either that or water in the fuel. Driving with a plugged filter won't cause damage.
