Do not have a diagram, but heres the firing order. 1-2-3-4-5-6, 1-3-5 is in back, # 1 is closest to alternator. from left to right, or facing engine from front 2-4-6 is in front. 5-2-3-6-4-1 is coil pack, from left to right (facing from front of engine).

Check for fuel, spark, and then compression. Fuel problems can be pump, pump relay, fuse, filter, line, etc. Spark problems can be distributor module, distributor, coil packs, power to distributor or coil packs, plug wires. Compression problems would be piston rings, piston walls, piston rods.

Change spark plugs on 1998 Malibu V6 3.1

on the 3.1, it is easier to change back plugs if you remove the coil packs. so you can reach the plugs from the top of engine. it almost seems impossible but this will work. it will give more room to work.

Just changed plugs and wires in my 1998 Chevy Malibu V6 3.1. Car now runs very rough and has no pick up at all. What is the proper firing order for this engine?

Firing order on 3.1L engine is 1-2-3-4-5-6. The ignition system is a waste-spark system, which uses 3 coil packs (1-4) (2-5) (3-6). Make sure that the paired cylinders' plug wires go to the same coil pack.
