Question about 1999 Toyota 4Runner

I HAVE A 1999 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. IS HAS VERY LITTLE POWER ON TAKE AND ITS TAKE AWHILE TO GET UP TO SPEED. IF I STEP ON ACCELERATOR IT SOUNDS LKE IT WANTS TO DIE. ALL CODES SAYS BANK 1 O2 SENSOR, CHANGED IT STILL HAVE SAME PROBLEM LIKE ITS SUCKING TO MUCH AIR. UNPLUG MAP SENSOR, VEHICLE DIES. I'M LOST NEED HELP. ON MY WAY TO IRAQ AND WIFE NEEDS A VEHICLE. ANYONE KNOWS THE SOLUTIONS

    change fuel filter and air filter, i still have the same problem, it's back firing thru the airbox, i'm at the end of my rope and i'm leaveing in 2 days. can you please help me on this matter, your turly soldier at at large

check for clogged catalytic converter...a free check at your local muffler shop...if 4 runner has been parked for a few weeks...add fuel system cleaner to tank...check for clogged air filter...least costly fixes...

I drive a 1991 toyota v6 camry le and i can find out why it doesnt have any power (slow acceleration speeds) the RPMs go up to about 5k and still cant feel the acceleration in it.


1. If you have the check engine light on then the emission control could be doing this because of bad oxygen sensor(s).

2. Check the transmission fluid. If the level is low then the transfer case would not transfer all the power from the engine to the transmission.

O2 Sensor Problem?


yes an o2 sensor can cause those symptoms so can a minor vacuum leak --bad ignition wire -clogging fuel filter --sticking egr valve etc.

I think you need to have it looked at by a local mechanic. By what you describe it sounds like your engine could be severely damaged.

could be tie rod ends. but you should have a toyota tech check them.

Engine rpm varies erratically


try fuel injector cleaner in your next fuel fill. sounds lke your injectors are dirty

Same thing happened to me, I had it computer analyzed and it turned out to be bad injector # 3, cost about $300 replaced.
