If it is not a crack in the block, make sure the cooling system is bled, and the cooling fans are working, and, the radiator maybe stopped up.

The water pump has a plastic impeller on a steel drive shaft and i think that the impeller has started to turn on the shaft hence when engine turns the drive shaft isnt turniing the impeller

have to think about this ,if you have fitted a new water pump, and a new radiator ?? as well then i would check out the temperature sender unit ,is the engine showing signs of running hot ?? like loosing coolant and steaming ,Now what i need to know is the fan electric or driven from the engine ,please bear with me here as i am in spain and this make of vehicle is not something i work on every day ,now if its electric fan then as a stop gap measure hot wire it so it comes on all the time ,where the relay is find the permant 12v feed to the fan so their are four connections on the bottom one is a heavy feed to the fan and the other goes to the fan motor ,the other two are a 12v supply from ignition then the other side goes to the temperature switch ,now some have a feed from temperature switch and the other side is earth so test it out ,right let me know how you get on as my er indoors is nagging me to take her to macdonalds ,i just have the salad but shes does like the bigmac perhaps thats why she is well built

Replace thermostat in a 1997 Dodge Intrepid

The thermostat is an easy replacement. The part from the part store should be very inexpensive and is very easy to install. IMPORTANT: allow the cars cooling system to completely cool down before starting to work on it. Here are the steps to replace the thermostat:

1. Allow car to cool.
2. Place drain pan under radiator and allow for coolant to drain below the thermostat. Do not completely drain the system unless replacing the fluid.
3. Remove the hose clamp and hose from thermostat housing.
4. Remove the two bolts holding the housing to engine.
5. Remove the thermostat gasket and clean the gasket completely off the engine and thermostat housing.
6. Remove the thermostat and replace with new.
7. Place new gasket on with reassembly.

Hi i own a 1998 dodge grand caravan and the problem i have is that i fill the rad up and all the water comes out of the over flow draining the rad. can you please help me? thanks wendy

not good wendy, most likely cause is a blown cylinder head gasket, but have someone check to make sure the thermostat is opening( if you let the engine idle for around 10min the top radiator hose will get hot when the thermostat opens if the engine overheats before the top hose gets hot then replace the thermostat) if the thermostat is poening then supect the head gasket.

My water outlet cap popped off and its leaking water and the water that stays boils. Should i replace my water pump 2003 dodge intrepid se 2.7

replace the cap--is the radiator damaged? No reason to replace the water pump. Boiling is caused by leak, faulty thermostat, clogged radiator, or head gasket.

What would cause overheating after 15 to 20 minutes of driving?

CHECK COOLANT LEVEL FIRST BUT IT SOUND LIKE FAULTY THERMOSTAT OR LEAKING HEAD WILL ALSO CAUSE OVERHEATING WHILE DRIVING.I WOULD REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP FIRST.THAT WAY YOU KNOW IF HEAD GASKET LEAKING.CHECK ENGINE OIL IF IT LOOKS LIKE MILK SHAKE HEAD GASKET BLOWN.

Radiator fan not turning on 02 intrepid

maybe the sensor that turns on the fans might of gone bad . . and turning on the ac when engine is gettin hot is not going to help instead turn on the heater to reduce the heat , also overheating causes hoses and gaskets to get soft and get destroyed

may have a restrictive radiator, leaking head gaskets can also cause overheating under loads. have your radiator flow checked and your engine block tested for leaking head gaskets
