You change timing belts,not chains

All nissan trucks has chain issues until last fall 2009, when the factory installed an updated chain on most 2010's.

If it gets really noisy, then the new chain and tensioners will be needed. And NO, Nissan will NOT stand behind ANYTHING AT ALL. Your on your own.

ALSO - Buy an aftermarket new radiator IMMEDIATELY and install it as fast as you can.
Read the blogs, 2nd Gen Nissan truck 2005,2006,2007 and maybe 2008 have bad radiators from the rad mfg.
The Tran Oil Coolers leak and take out your trans

AGAIN- NISSAN DOES NOTHING FOR ANYONE. Read the internet info

SOURCE: timing chain 2006 aerio

timing chains are not maintenance/wear items, they are not anticipated to fail because they don't suffer degradation from heat and fluids like rubber belts do

inner timing cover oil gallery gaskets are more than likely your problem...you can make your own for 10 dollars or give nissan 500 for a new cover as they dont supply the gaskets....check the oil pan for gasket material...thats a sure sign they blew out but they may be gone and still holding together so its not always accurate...

We have a 2002 Nissan Xterra SE. We're being told that the timing chain has broke & when it breaks it damages the valves. Total repair around $2500. Is this accurate???

maybe, maybe not. If the chain only slips a link, this will not happen. It depends on how it fails, and you never know exactly what the damage is until you replace the chain and try to start it. If you're sure there is SOME damage, then you go ahead and pull the head off to assess the cost before replacing the chain. The damage can range from a bent valve to busted pistons. If you have more questions, please let us know.

For a 2001 nissan xterra when should the timing belt be replaced

On a 3.3L engine V-6, Nissan recommends replacement every 105,000 miles, note that this is an interference engine, that piston to valve damage will happen in the event of a timing belt failure.

Xterra with 2.4L and 4.0L have timing chain only, no timing belt.

2003 nissan xterra v-6 does it have a timing chain or belt and if it has a belt when does it need to be changed?

It has a timing belt, not a chain. Easy enough to check your owners manual. From memory, belt is to be replaced at about 100,000 miles or 160,000 km give or take.
