I have a 1996 Ford Taurus. The ac compressor

I have a 1996 Ford Taurus. The ac compressor won't come on. Is there anything else that might possibly cause this other than a faulty compressor.

Hi, yes there is a high low pressure switch in the a/c circuit which is a safety switch for the system, if the a/c gas has leaked and dropped a bit of pressure this switch will prevent the compressor from activating as the gas also is a lubricant for the compressor and prevents/ saves a major failure. Take it to a a/c service centre and they should be able to tell you quickly if this is the case, it would be a simple regas and leak fix, this symptom is the most common I have seen. Good luck and have a nice day.

There is a possibility, but I doubt even a Ford tech would know that off-hand. If you can, get the used pulley, and compare it to what you already have on hand.

Changing computer is not the only possible concern, Plus, you shouldnt just think a bone yard computer is the first answer, vehicles after 1996 are OBD 2 compliant, and MOST have VIN specific code stored, if not correct, car may never run or run correctly

Had the compressor replaced on 2003 Ford Taurus, A/C was recharged, but today it only blows out warm air.

have the AC tech performed a leak test on the system after recharging? is the expansion valve and filter drier as well as the o-rings for the fittings replaced? check also for possible leaks in the system in the fittings of the hose and in the evaporator housing. also check if the magnetic clutch of the AC compressor is engaged, you will hear a click when it it engaged.

Ac not working

AC's have a refrigerant pressure sensor to prevent damage to the AC compressor when there's a leak. When there's no pressure the AC shuts down and won't activate the compressor clutch. Have the AC tubing and couplings checked on leaks.
