First check your tire pressures and make sure they're up. Then you might consider changing out your steering stabilizer (steering shock) and have your front end (components checked)

I have seen the frame crack from metal fatigue behind the steering box invisible to normal inspection. Watch for movement of the unit while someone turns your steering wheel. Possibly bent suspension components due to severe off-roading?

1985 cj7 6cyl starts up just fine and then it wont


Sound like either fuel or ignition. Have you replaced any fuel filters? I would check the condition of the distributor cap and wires as well. Moisture could be a factor.

if it was me i would go to a good salvage yard and get my hands on a good one and replace the whole column and take it by a lock smith with my key and have it rekey try this website to find a good salvage yard near you www.junkyarddog.com and what i do when i am working on something sometime is go by the library and checkout a Haynes auto repair manual for the car i am working on also try these websites www.autozone.com and www.alladtadiy.com best of luck Michigan man.

Engine oil comes out valve cover breather filter


Sounds like blow-by if I understand correctly. Do a compression test to see where you stand with your engine.

The power steering pump is black and has a 2" diameter cap theat screws on.
