There is a fuse for your ABS system. It is in your fuse box under your steering wheel or under the hood. Check your manual to see which one it is.

The fuse that is under the hood is the fuse you want to pull. It is a 60 amp fuse, very large one and sort of a bluish color. The fuse box under the hood is located on the drivers side, next to the fender just between the battery and the firewall. Pulling this fuse will disable your ABS system, but not your brakes, the brakes will function normally just like any car without ABS, but you will have to deal with the BRAKE and ABS lite on the dash being on all the time. We pulled our fuse out over a year ago after almost getting into an accident because the ABS would engage and not allow the truck to stop for stop lights and stop signs. Apparantly GM is well aware of the issue and as far as I know has not made a recall to repair the issue. But removing the fuse should stop the problem you have been having.

I have a 1994 Chevy silverado, my rear brake lines leak, I live in a very rural area and work is 8 miles up the road, I cannot afford to fix until next month. How can I disable the rear brakes?

You DO NOT want to disable the rear brakes. This would be an extremely dangerous thing to do. You should not operate the vehicle in this condition and it might be illegal to do so or perform any kind of work which would disable the rear brakes.

What brake ststem do 2001 silverados have? rear brakes

Hi. Your 2001 Chevy Silverado is equipped with Antilock Brake System (ABS). You will identify also if your car is equipped with ABS by looking at the instrument panel for a yellow ABS indicator light after you turn on the ignition.

All the best!

Why wont my ABS light on the dash wont turn off even after I changed the brakes?

the ABS light doesn't come on because u need a brake job, it comes on when it senses a failed part like a wheel speed sensor, in order to determine exactly what part is keeping the light on and disabling the Antilock Brakes you will need a shop to scan the systems comuter for fault codes

From pads may be low causing the rear brakes to over brake and the anti-lock kicks in. Could be a sticking caliper piston and last the proportioning valve may need bleeding as it is offset.....

2001 chevy silverado anti lock brakes

You most likely have a wheel speed sensor dropping out this would make abs system think one wheel is locking up and therefore activate. this usually will happen rt before you stop at around 5mph or so.Also if you have bigger tires than factory and have not had abs programmed for this size it can aggravate it
