Question about 1996 Acura TL Series

2 Answers

My Mom's Acura is gutless! The code reader shows #5 misfire. I cleared the code and it did not return. I changed the fuel filter, pulled the plugs and preformed a compression check all ok...although a little rich on the plugs. She is using premium gas. I can power brake and feel a slight miss or shake. The only code I got was the misfire. The engine is so weak it doesn't shift correctly. So what next? O2 sensors or maybe cat converter. Thanks in Advance

Mileage?
5 (2.5) or 6 (3.2) cylinder?

On 5 change wires and distributor cap and rotor button. Use Borg Warner wires, they are low resistance.

Use NGK iridium plugs.

Use injector cleaner.

Replace fuel filter.

Or just spark plugs or wires. Or Distributor/ignition. check the cheap things first. Also, replace your fuel filter.

2001 dodge grand caravan sport 3 code 3.3 liter flex fuel random cylinder misfire along with 1 2 5 6 cylinder misfires. scan tools are unable to communicate with computer but check engine light will come...

Dirty fuel injectors. Computer will show misfire on the cylinders that are malfunctioning. If injector cleaner in tank won't clean them, pull them all out and have a professional take them apart and cleaned. Each injector has a screen in it that can get plugged up. Think about Bro, all other stuff has been renewed.

if you have a coil on plug system, or a waste spark system.... swap coils and see if the miss follows the coil.... voila... that'll fix it.

Misfire on 4, 5 & 6

Take your time, if its been awhile do a complete tune-up. and preliminary check a misfire can come from a defective cap and rotor, fuel and air filter. a leak in the fuel system or defective regulator.

When idling my 2003 Acura TL the engine seems to want to almost die, also when i got on the freeway it seem to pull hard and **** like it was having trouble shifting into 5th gear. It also seems to run...

You may need to change the coil pack(s) or modular. The modular is what the coil pack(s) mount to. I'm not familiar with that engine so you may have a 3 piece coil pack, or a 1 piece. (If it doesn't have a distributor). You may first try replacing the coil wire. There is a good chance that is loose, or bad. It could also be the coil itself. Try the coil wire and if it still acts up, then try the others. Also, when you changed the plugs, did you put new plug wires? When I do a tune up on my vehicles, I change the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, (coil pack, modular), whichever is equipped, oil, oil filter, tranny fluid and filter with gasket, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket oil filter, and fuel filter. Try changing the fuel filter as well, as plugged or dirty fuel filters can cause stall outs. I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing fixya.com for answers.
