Question about 1995 Ford Taurus

2 Answers

My 1995 Taurus wagon is in excelant condition, w/ only 80,000 miles on it. It has no power, and gets 7-8 MPG! I am a mechanic and have done the obvious, O2 sensor, Air filter, fuel filter, sea foam, injecter cleaner, checked cats, plugs&wires, Cap&roter, ect. Fuel presure is 32-35 PSIG. I could not figure it out so I brought it to the shop to check the OBD I . no problems revieled themselves but the mechanic said that the injector pulse was 16-18 and should be around 3-4. The engine was running around 197 F. I also do NOT have any black smoke or rich smell at the exhaust. but I do smell raw fuel at times from a hose protruding from some black plastic conduit at the right side of the fuel tank. I asume it should be connected with the charcoal canister but I'm not sure. I changed out the fuel pump relay with no change. What els is there? oh yea imming was perfict too.

Can you post the last smog test result on the comment link on the UPPER RIGHT (ADD COMMENT)

Three items that you can do as a do it yourselfer are

1) Vent the charcoal canister EVAP lines
Do you top off the gas when you fill up?
Did you loan your car to someone and is it possible someone in your family is TOPPING OFF?
Disconnect the charcoal canister lines and it the trap vapor to vent over night.
Check for hose leak on the EVAP system,
Reconnect and go to step 2

2)Inject pulse will increase when the computer/ECU sense addition load.
I just wonder why your shop did not change the throttle position sensor (TPS) and vacuum advance unit on a 80,000 miles car.

Check for vacuum line leak to this timing advance/vacuum unit.

Check for vacuum leak on intake manifold.
Un-metered air input between mass air flow sensor and intake manifold.

3) Add a can of Lucus fuel cleaner and take it for a high RPM drive.
Carbon can build up on the head/valves.

Do a compress test to rule out head problem.

Check the brakes, make sure none of them are holding, and have the ignition module checked at the auto parts store to make sure it is good,The est mode maybe at fault ,and it is in the module. The est is the electronic spark timing,or,as the on older cars, the spark advance. Also, have the fuel pressure regulator checked, and the return line to the fuel tank,to make sure it is not blocked,or restricted.

Have the coolant sensor changed out,if the coolant sensor is bad it can tell the computer to enrich the fuel a little, like it is in med temp, this may be the problem, ohm, and resistance is not always a perfect science

2003 Ford Taurus, 81,000 miles. MPG down to 19-20. Car has no mechanical or electronic issues and runs great. Good brakes, no drag in chassis. New plugs, wires, Cam position sensor and air filter....

I would check for vacuum leaks. And clean the mass air flow sensor and the throttle body. (use break clean) spray the sensor and use a toothbrush on the throttle plate and as far as you can reach in it. I would also replace the air and fuel filters if you haven't done this with in a year.

Power distrubution box caught fire while driving fire dept cut cables to battery is this somthing common or not 1991 taurus station wagon has 83000 orig miles on it how could this happen.

fords in general have numerous complaints of underhood fires, here is a link of hundreds of reports-if you scroll down to Taurus, you might see a similar type of fire and it will give you a place to start when you contact the dealer-since it is a 20 year old car, chances are they will do nothing about it, but if you can find that a recall was done and you were not contacted about it, you might get some relief.

'03 Kia Sedona EX - ONLY Error Code - Clogged Catalytic Converter - Causing hesitation and 3 mpg reduction in gas mileage. Van in very good condition, 78,000 miles, 1 yr of 500 Miles/wk of Commuting...

Most "common" cause is and engine misfire that causes unburned fuel to enter the converter and overheat/melt the catalyst. The converter is covered by 8yr/80,000 mile warranty for defects, and may be covered thru Kia. On a positive note we have a 2005 sedona shuttle van a work with 250,000 miles on it and qoing strong.

1999 Ford Taurus GL Wagon 3.0 V6 178K - Two issues. 1 - oil pan - slight leak due to worn oil pan gasket, probably cork. Worn rusted spot on the bottom of the pan. I have a replacement pan from a salvage...

yes the exhaust has to come down. 6 or 7 bolts no big deal.Didnt your mechanic tell you that? why isnt he replacing the pan for you?Why would you buy a pan from a salvage yard, they are cheap from aftermarket sources, and if it leaks when you are done, tough luck.. turning the ck engine light is not solving anything. your trans has a problem and the sooner its fixed, the less it may cost you.

Poor gas mileage on 2008 Ford taurus

Are you using the correct grade of fuel.
Manufacturers claim that a car will do 28 to the gallon.
This is done under ideal conditions at a constant speed on a rolling road.
Wind, hills, overtaking and tire pressures will decrease fuel mileage.
Your car is ok. Don`t expect much more unless you want to drive at 56mph
good luck
