Question about 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse

1 Answer

I have a 1992 Eclipse, 1.8L, automatic. I have put 2 different transmissions in and have the same problem. Once you put it in drive it seems to be stuck in 2nd gear and will not change. It will go in reverse but not out of 2nd gear. I would really like to find the solution to this problem so if you could help I would greatly appreciate it. thank you, -Sean

Its a 1992 which if iam not mistaken doesnt have any fancy electrics ,so if its not changing gear then check the vacumn pipe from the manifold to the gearbox also make sure that the kick down cable is back and check the operation because if the kick down cable is stuck in the kick down position then it will hold out in gear and not change up .

My 2001 eclipse automatic would not move in reverse, drive and all other gears just for a momment but now works but has no power from the stop position and takes forever to get up to speed

The slip disks in your automatic transmission and some synchronizers are worn out. Your transmission needs to be overhauled and repaired.

1992 mitsubishi eclipse wont go faster than 25 miles per hour

If this is an automatic, I'd suspect a transmission failure of some sort.

If a manual 5-spd, or the engine just won't rev, then there are several possibilities:
1. a fuel problem (fuel pump?)
2. the timing belt has slipped and the valve timing is way off.

Could be the front or rear brakes have jammed. Are any of the brakes getting VERY hot as you drive?

What car caN i yank out the transmisssion for my buick 1992 roadmaster any one know????

You need to know 2 things, how many wires go to your neutral safety switch and the length of your transmission. The switch is on the driver's side about halfway across the driver's door. Tail shaft length's differ depending on what GM put the transmission in. They cannot be changed without taking the whole transmission apart. You will have to change driveshafts.
Once you know those 2 things any mid or Full sized GM, includung trucks should have a trans that you can swap, although I would try to stay as close to 92 as you can. Hope this helps.

2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse automatic transmission wont go in gear and when you press on the gas the motor just revs. I have checked the tranny fluid and seems to be fine.

I just went through the same problem this year twice. My car started smoking some, and I notice a trial of fluid on the road both times. I'm not sure but my car problems may have started when I got my Transmission flushed.

My car has 100,000 miles and I drive my car pretty hard.

I was first told the torque converter went out. Then I was told the Fuel pump needed to be changed. After being without a car for threes months, I just brought a new transmission and had it shipped to the shop.

From researching online, I think the fragile "Wave spring" in the transmission needs to be replaced and the new version of the "Wave Spring" is a solid & thick metal ring.

Secondly, the Mechanic will need a alignment tool to put the transmission back together properly. The tool is called Sonnex or made by the company I think.

Let me know what you find out.

Also only use Transmission fluid for Mitsubishi Eclipse only.

1. Torque Converter
2. Transmission "Wave Spring" broken pieces of the wave spring may damage other parts as it flows through the system or the fuel pump I think.

2001 eclipse suddenly quit driving, acts like it slipped into neutral and shifting makes no difference (auto). Any ideas on what happened?

its the same thing eclipse trannys have a big problem with the wave spring inside, it breaks and destroys the ******, If you get it fixed again make sure they put a rebuilt one in. Mitsubishi redesigned the wave spring

1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse transmission slips in overdrive

well the low cost way to go first would be to try and change the trans fluids. If the problems still remains the it may be an internal problem
