Question about 1998 Honda Civic

1 Answer

My 1999 Honda Civic LX has a metal rattling noise when I go over the many bumps and pot holes in Chicago, could this be a shock absorber/strut or some kind of suspension problem? it sounds like the front Passenger side fender is coming off. The fender doesn't move when I test it out by hand.

It could definitely be a shock/strut problem. Could also be another front suspension issue. I would have it checked by a professional immediately as you could end up doing serious damage to yourself and the vehicle. How many miles are on the vehicle? When was the last time anything was replaced on that front side?
Thank you,
Lee

2 years ago I replaced my two front shock/struts at a Car X place. As well I just had the car repaired after an accident this last year with a Semi slamming me from behind into a LandRover which did slight damage to the hood and rear. straight on impact. The car does not pull to the side in driving, as well it does not droop down on that noisy side. I think I will have it checked.

    Hi,
Were any repairs made since the accident? could be broken strut mount, but at this point there are a lot of possibilities. A physical inspection by any qualified mechanic should turn up the culprit fairly easily.
    Thanks again,

When stoping i here a bumping noise

have your front-end checked, could be bad strut, shock-absorber, worn bushing @ control-arm, not good, unsafe, this could cause that bumping noise you hear, seek repair ASAP. avoid pot holes ! good luck

My car started clunking in the rear near the tire, especially when I turn left

Check your top shock absorber and/or strut mounts, they may have been hammered by the many bumps and stripped out the mounting hardware on top just an eighth of an inch which will cause super loud bangs as that side wobbles up and down and hits into the Body Metal. These can get dangerous if left loose at all, my old boss said his Taurus would change lanes by itself at 120 Km/hr in the rain!

My back wheel when it hit a pot hole or any other bump in the street it bounce or not enough bounce to it ...the struts are ok an suspension is ok I was told so whats goin on..can u help me

I not sure if I fully understand your question. Are you asking should your car be bouncing more when you hit a bump or pot hole?

Well this is how struts and shocks are suppose to work: Struts and shocks are suppose to assist in providing a smooth ride, when you hit a bump or pot hole the struts and shocks absorb the force so you won't feel the full impact when driving. A good set of struts and shocks will eliminate excessive bouncing when driving or when you come across bumps and other mishaps in the road. So inconclusion if your car is not doing a whole lot of bouncing when you are driving that is a good thing, because that means your struts and shocks are doing their job and that means there is nothing wrong with them.

Hi, I have opel corsa 1.4. Recently i faced a problem that if if there is at least three person (including driver) then during running a tortling noise comming from the right side of the back whenevr it...

the best way to find out what it is would be to have the 3 people in the car while gently pushing down on the car simulating a pot hole or bump and inspecting how the exhaust & shocks in that area where you hear the noise, are fitting. It sounds as if when the weight of the extra passengers is in the vehicle, probably your exhaust pipe/muffler/tailpipe is now closer than usual to another body part & when you hit bumps or pot holes, the extra force caused makes it bump or rub.

Generaly there should always be 1" of exhaust clearance from other parts. There could also be a problem with the shock/strut when the extra weight is placed on it. The noise should actually point you in the best direction & you should look for shiny spots on metal, pipes or things that appear to be capable of rubbing. Sometimes, the muffler /exhaust will lose one or more of the rubber O-rings it is supported by and that allows it to swing & bump making noise. Good luck.

mcdevito75 here, Chances are you still have the original Struts in the vehicle, have new struts installed at all 4 wheels. Shop around for a good price on Struts (shock absorbers)

I'd have a look at the shock absorbers (might be called dampers, depending on what part of the world you live in) for this sort of symptom.
