No you don't. it doesn't exist. there's a screen down there, it pulls out. but no filter. the fuel filter is in the line below the drivers seat.

Do i have to buy another fuel pump for my car because my 4year old put sand in my gas tank

No, but you have to have the tank removed, drained and thoroughly cleaned. If left, the sand will end up wearing away parts from the fuel tank on the fuels travel to the exhaust manifold. The worst bit would be sand getting stuck in the oil on the piston rings and wearing the cylinder bore away.

I just fueled my F-250 5.4 liter gas powered truck. Now it won't keep running .

If you have debris in the tank, you must clean the fuel tank. That usually requires removing it from the vehicle. That is not an easy job, it is best left to a garage to do. First try to disconnect the in-line fuel filter and place a bucket under the line and see if fuel is flowing and then if any foreign matter is found in the fuel in the bucket. If you do, then you probably need to have to fuel tank cleaned out. Your new filter may already be clogged up. That would mean it is doing its job filtering the fuel before it reaches the engine.

Good luck

Why am I having fuel issues with a 97' f-250 7.3 powerstroke, put new sensors on everything, new fuel lift pump, glow plugs, filter, new tank filter, cleaned all the lines from tank to the fuel bowl, s

If this situation occurs after a period of time then check the tank vent correctly at the vent valve on top of the tank. If it occurs reasonably quickly then check the fuel return lines from the injectors to the tank for obstruction ,kinks ,squashed etc preventing the fuel free access to the tank. check the pressure regulator to the pump is holding sufficient pressure to maintain pressure to the pumpin the pump

Hi i have a 2006 dodge diesel that we figure got bad fuel and stopped running.wouldnt start took it in go a new lift pump, fuel filter, lines cleaned and tank cleaned out and its still not running great....

Diesels need to be clean and typically after 10,000 miles removing the fuel filter produces very little in the way of dirt and grit.

You had the tank and lines cleaned out and a new pump and presumably a new filter and still you find dirt and grit in the filter after a short time. ..
Either the tank, etc. wasn't cleaned out or more dirt has entered the tank since, either from more dirty fuel, from dirt ingress into the tank while the car is in use or the third possibility is something is wearing rapidly and the dirt is appearing in the tank to be recirculated after being sent along the fuel return line. If this is what is happening it throws suspicion onto the high pressure pump...

If the high pressure pump is failing it is surprising one or more of the injectors hasn't failed.

If you got dirty fuel the filter should have trapped everything that was likely to damage the injection system until performance reduced and eventually the engine stopped due to fuel starvation. Replacing the fuel filter with a suitable amount of care should then restore performance to the previous level.

Fuel filters are great for trapping dirt but not so good for other liquid contaminants. Water fortunately tends to remain at the bottom of the tank and the bottom of the filter cavity but other things might pass through the filter - acids, salt solution, solvents.
A couple of years ago there was a case of a few petrol filling stations selling fuel contaminated with seawater and shortly afterwards a lot of injectors needed replacing...

I think if my car had the problem your car has I would temporarily fit an inline filter to the fuel return line and drive it for a time. Two things should happen if the dirt is self-generated. The new inline fiter when cut open should show the dirt and grit you usually discover in the main filter and secondly, there should be a reduction in the amount of dirt and grit you find in the main filter, however any dirt at all in the inline fiter means my best advice is to take the car to a good diesel specialist for proper diagnosis and a guaranteed repair.

If dirt is found in the fuel return line there can be no half measures - the business end of the injection system needs surgical-level cleanliness.

Good luck!

How to get fuel lines off if they have mud in them?

first thing pressure wash all the mud off the fuel filter area and I would try to change the fuel filter first before you go through all the tank cleaning and flushing and use some techron fuel additive to clean your injection system drop the tank remove the pump and replace the screen on the pump take the fuel tank to the radiator shop and have them hot tank it and clean it. use the special tools to release the spring and slide the fuel lines off. Remove the fuel filter then pump non flammable solvent through the line from the tank to the filter then disconnect the fuel lines at the engine and fuel canister. then flush those lines (you can buy a hand siphon pump at autozone) blow the lines out with air. install the tank replace the fuel filter hook up the engine compartment fuel lines you dont have to remove the line

I need to change my fuel filter in my 98 Dodge Intrepid. I know I need to drop the gas tank, but I'll be honest I've never did this before. I would like to have pictures to see what it looks like.

300M, Concorde, Intrepid, LHS, 1998-2004 - Fuel Filter Removal & Installation The fuel filter mounts to the frame rail in front of the fuel tank. The inlet and outlet ends of the filter are marked for installation purposes. Install the fuel filter making certain that it is properly orientated.

NOTE The fuel filter is part of the fuel pressure regulator mounted on the fuel pump module.
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Lower the fuel tank.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:
Negative battery cable Purge and vent lines Fuel line from the pressure regulator Filter/regulator by pushing in the locking tab, turning the regulator to unlock it and pulling the it straight up

  2. Connect the fuel lines and install the tank.
  3. Start the engine, check for leaks and repair if necessary.

Fuel Pump - Removal & Installation
The in-tank fuel pump module contains the fuel pump and pressure regulator which adjusts fuel system pressure. Fuel pump voltage is supplied through the fuel pump relay.

The fuel pump is serviced as part of the fuel pump module. The fuel pump module is installed in the top of the fuel tank and contains the electric fuel pump, fuel pump reservoir, inlet strainer fuel gauge sending unit, fuel supply and return line connections and the pressure regulator. The inlet strainer, fuel pressure regulator and level sensor are the only serviceable items. If the fuel pump requires service, replace the fuel pump module.
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    Negative battery cable Fuel tank
  4. Clean the top of the tank to remove any loose dirt.

Fuel pump module electrical connector from the top of the fuel pump module
  5. Using special tool 6856, remove the fuel pump locknut by turning it counterclockwise.
CAUTION The fuel reservoir of the fuel pump module does not empty out when the tank is drained. The fuel in the reservoir may spill out when the module is removed.
  6. Remove the fuel pump and O-ring from the tank and discard the O-ring.
To install:
  1. Thoroughly clean all parts. Wipe the seal area of the tank clean. Place a new O-ring on the ledge between the tank threads and the pump module opening.
  2. Position the fuel pump module in the tank. Be sure the alignment tab on the underside of the pump module flange sits in the corresponding notch in the fuel tank.
  3. While holding the fuel pump module in place install the locking ring and torque to 40 inch lbs. (5 Nm) using special tool 6856 or a spanner-type tool.
  4. Install or connect the following:
Fuel tank Fuel pump module electrical connector Negative battery cable
  5. Fill the fuel tank with fuel. Install the fuel filler cap. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position to pressurize the system. Check the fuel system for leaks.
Hope this helped.

Trouble starting, sputtering clogged sound

is you tank the metal type if so you need to remove it and flush it out. and clean the fuel lines change the filter and clean the carb out. i only say is it metal tank as some people have upgraded the tank to plastic. also converted the engine to unleaded fuels. the lead replacement that can be left in the tank so you can use unleaded fuel is ok but you do need to clean the tank out from time to time due to oxidation on the lead, it creates a green sludge in the tank and can be dragged in to the fuel lines and get past the filter if the filter is damaged this will cause similar problems you mention.
