Typically when you hear a whine or noise from the fuel pump, the electric motor is getting ready to fail. Sometimes it can last 50 miles or 50,000. I would just drive till it went out. Hope this helps!

2002 chevy tahoe . the engine will turn but will not start

Listen carefully when you first turn the key to "ON" (not Start). You should be able to hear the Fuel Pump run for a few seconds and then shut off. If not, you may have a bad fuel pump. Get it to a qualified service technician for this.

03 Tahoe Z71 Flex Fuel won't start and run. Engine turns over, fires, but won't start. I can hear the fuel pump run but it is not a steady sound like I would normally hear. I am getting a P0

It wouldn't hurt to check fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge. you should see somewhere around 48 - 55 psi. the test port is on the fuel rail about in the middle of the rail and on the drivers side.

If the fuel fuel pressure is low it wouldn't hurt to make sure there is power to the fuel pump before condemning it. Power is supplied to the pump by the larger of the two grey wires.

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and the fuel tank will need to be dropped from the vehicle in order to service the fuel pump.

If you decide to replace the fuel pump get an a/c delco or a delphi pump. These are the best two option for your vehicle. Do not get an airtex brand. They are not reliable pumps although they are cheap.

Let me know if you have any questions and thank you for using fixya.com!

1999 chevy Tahoe wont start but turns over

Your fuel pressure can be checked by connecting a fuel test gauge up to fuel test port which will be located on the fuel rail at the back of the engine on drivers side next to the distributor.Your fuel pressure should be 60-66 psi with key on engine off.If its not within these specs then replace the fuel pump and filter.

I have a 2002 chevy suburban and after the ignition is turned off I hear what sounds like a motor or pump running. I had a dead battery when I left work and had to jump it to get it started. It ran fine on...

Hello: It sounds like the motor/pump assembly is running all the time. You can unplug the electrical connector on the unit. The assembly is located on the frame about halfway back on the drivers side. The relay for the pump motor is integral with the anti-lock module but the module will have to be replaced to replace the module. The relay mab stuck, if the electric pump motor is pulling to many amps it could cause the relay to stick.

My 2002 chevy tahoe steering is hard like the steering pump is not working, what could the problem be? I checked the oil level and the pump turns when the engine is running.

COULD BE A SIMPLE CLOG, AND THERE WERE SOME ISSUES WITH THE PLASTIC NIPPLE WHERE THE HOSE CONNECTS TO THE PUMP CRACKING OR EXPLODING IN SOME INSTANCES. IF YOU HEAR A WHINE OR FEEL VIBRATION THAT MATCHES THE SOUNDS WHILE TURNING YOUR PUMP MIGHT BE BAD, OR POSSIBLE THAT ANOTHER PULLEY BEARING IS BAD. REPLACE PUMP AND IM GUESSING YOULL HAVE YOUR TAHOE BACK THE WAY IT SHOULD BE.

Is there a huel reset on 2001 chevy tahoe

Sorry there is no fuel pump reset on the Tahoe. If you have no fuel pressure, check the fuses and relay, and wire harness to the fuel pump from the inside frame rail on the drivers side. If you can hear the fuel pump working, check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve and there should be 60 to 66 PSI, if you don't you can try checking for 12 volt at the fuel pump wire harness at the frame rail. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help.

Tahoe won't start

Is your security light flashing? If your Tahoe has the factory ant-theft system, if the security light is flashing while you are cranking your anti-theft system has been activated. It is common for the Tahoes to wear out the ignition lock assembly, lock cylinder and the ignition switch(electrical) which is attached to the lock assembly. I have replaced all three parts with great success and solved the no start problem on several GM trucks.

The most common problem with these vehicles is the fuel pump. The pump should run for a few seconds when you turn the key on before you crank the engine. If you don't hear the pump run, go to the fuse/relay box under the hood. Look at the diagram on the inside of the lid and locate the fuel pump fuse and relay. Check the fuse to see if it is blown put it back if OK or replace it. Unplug the fuel pump relay and use a paper clip to jumper across terminals #30 & #87 where the relay plugs in. If the fuel pump starts running, you should be able to hear it run at the back of the vehicle, where the tank is. If you don't hear the pump running, hit the center of the tank dead-center with a rubber or wooden mallet. If the pump still doesn't run, see if you can get to the wires going to the fuel pump and wiggle them. If you hear the pump run, try starting the engine. If it starts, replace the relay, if that was the problem or the fuel pump AND relay if the fuel pump was the problem. WARNING! WHEN YOU UNPLUG THE PAPER CLIP. IT MAY BE HOT!!!
The fuel pumps AND connector are big problems with GM trucks. If you replace the fuel pump(which is located in the fuel tank), use only the factory pump which you can buy at your GM dealer or an auto parts store that sells Delco parts. If the fuel pump used the small square four-pin electrical connector, replace it with the fuel pump. The latest GM/Delco fuel pumps will come with the new plug which you MUST change over as it is now a flat four-pin connector.
GOOD LUCK!
