It seems you have a sort circuit in the wiring or the switch......

normally you have 2 types of shorts, 1 is to earth and this causes the fuse to blow, indicating a fault and preventing a fire.

The second one is a short to power, where the circuit remains on, despite the switch being turned off.

I would suggest that the park light switch is shorting out.

If you are not familiar with electronics, I would prefer you seek an auto electrician to do the job.

I have had a similar issue with my 2000 GMC Sierra 3500. I took the dash panel off and in behind where the switch is, I simply unplugged the wire running into the switch and cleaned it out and put it back in good and tight. Sometimes the switch can rattle loose and you loose connection form the switch.

Is there a button by the headlight control switch? I recently found out that the dome light only comes on while the doors are open when this button is engaged

Hardly seems worth changing the lock cylinder, since it is not that easy.
Just be more careful turning the ignition off.
Put in an ignition indicator light on the dash if you have to.

98 Sierra 3/4ton 4x4 turbo wont start

When you turn the key to on, the dashlights have to come on and go off when you turn it to the starting position. Make sure you have a good battery first. No dash lights indicate a bad ignition switch. Check all fuses and relays. But I am pretty sure it is the ignition switch.
