Question about 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

2 Answers

Today my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder started shifting in and out of overdrive every few seconds on the way home from work. It doesn't seem related to speed or rpm. It ignores the OD on/off button. Still did it after I shifted from D to 3. I got an oil change this morning. Trany fluid is OK.... car has cooled, going to go drive it in a few minutes and see if it does it again immediately or takes a while... any suggestions?.

Gets some electical parts wash and try to wash the inside of the od button itself you may have to losen the plastic case carefull not to lose any parts if that improves or correct s the problem ,then you know were your problem is . most times people have this problem its because of all the coffee, and sodas that have spilled or dripped aroun your gear shift and or od button best i have to offer .

It sounds like the input or output speed sensor may have been unplugged or damaged during the oil change.

Sorry, but both guys are wrong. Overdrive relay on the Pathy. The trans sounds as if it is downshifting/coming out of O/D when you let off of the accelerator. It will go back into O/D with slight pedal pressure. Replace the relay.

check ecu fuse.your problem could be vechicle speed sensor also. if you dont see any ecu check engine light fuse either blowed or bulb burned out.but if ecu not working vechicle wont shift correct.

1993 pathfinder w auto trans wont shift out of second gear.it does shift in overdrive mode?

It must be giving you a code as to what is going on here. It sounds like you have a bad silenoid to me. It will be inside ya trans on the valve body. Check and see what codes are comming up on it.

My 1993 Nissan Pathfinder's Chronic 'Back Pain'

I would think the exhaust converter is an issue,IF it
is more than 12 or 14 years old

Passing an emission test & having a complete honey
comb inside are two different things

You could do a cylinder leak down test

I would say it probably is carboned up, if it is the
original engine,thus doesn't like hills

Valve train wear most likely

1989 pathfinder transmission 3spd w/ overdrive works great when first started, then downshifting starts way early, started after alternater wentbad

Do you mean upshifting starts way early? Going from 2nd to 3rd in other words?
Ireally don't know your transmission, but the alternator problem might've possibly spiked and hurt your shifting solenoids in the ******. don-ohio (:^)

Why won't a 1995 nissan pathfinder shift into third gear

87 Pathfinder V-6 Engine turns over but does not start.

That could be a few things but we need to find out if it is fuel related or electrical related. A quick way to find out if its fuel related is to spray some starter fluid in the breather for 3 seconds. If it starts and go dead it is fuel related. Do this test a couple of times and you should get the same results. It should runs a few seconds and then go dead.. Fuel related issues means fuel pump and filter needs to be changed. and some times fuel pressure valve. Try this first Good Luck!!!

When traveling between 35-55 mph. my pathfinder jerks and stalls a little bit. Doesn't seem serious, just anoying. Then just yesterday it wouldn't respond to pressing the gas pedal. It started out very...

You got a problem a sense on the accerlator .Or on the air intake senser. If it's not that I would put gas cleaner in the tank. That would be the cheaps thing to try. Buy your gas at walmart and in the insle that has the tech gas cleaner and buy it there ,it will install it has you pump.
