Hi errol, try loosening the highest hot hose clip,to vent any trapped air,(make sure the plastic bottle is full).
to test the fans, run a wire from the battery to the fan and if fans run then it could be the sensor or the relay.....relay cheapest.

2006 3.0ltr diesel turbo temp gauge goes up at idle but back to normal when driving engine not hot does not overheat when going long distance????

Maybe your cooling fan is broken. I had the same problem with a honda civic. It would overheat at idle or low speed, but at high speed the air forced through the cooler would keep the temp down. I don't know why it broke, but I just wired the fan to a circuit that came on when the car started. I used a multimeter to check the voltage of various wires in the engine compartment until I found one that was off when the car was off and on when the car was on.

Temperature gauge needle issue

It is not overheating that is well within the normal range. If the engine gets to hot you will get a check engine warning light.

I have 1989 s10 blazer with a 4.3. I have replaced the water pump, thermostat & belt,it still gets hot by the dash gauge it says the temp is 225 is that normal temp?

The normal temp should be between 195 and 220 degrees. 225 is not bad but does seem a little on the high side. Do you see this temp at idel and then it cools down as you drive or do you see this temp all the time? If you see it all the time after the engine is fully warmed up it may be the gauge is a little off or the trump sensor may be a little off. If you see it at idle and then it cools down while driving than you possible have a bad fan clutch. Another possibility is that you have bunch of debris that has built up in front of the radiator on the outside. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Radiator fan won't kick in

On my slightly older Saab the radiator fan is electric and only is engaged when the temperature meter reaches 3/4 to the top.

When the car is in motion it will not spin since the air flowing through the radiator from the speed is sufficient to maintain normal engine temp. Only when the car is still it for a few minutes it may start to spin especially during summer, it will sometimes continue to spin even after the engine is turned off. This is normal behavior for this car.

To conclude, if your engine temp only goes up to half the gauge there would be no need for the fan to start spinning. If it doesn't engage during the conditions I described above there would be a problem that needs to be fixed.
