Should be somewhere on the oil pan underneath the engine.

On top of the engine, yellow cap, just past the radiator fill cap.

I have a 1998 subaru legacy L do u check the auto tranny fluid with the engine running in park or neutral or with engine off?

Always check it with the engine running, and put the gearbox into Park. and the handbrake ON, Make sure that the gearbox is warmed up to normal operating temperature first. A drive of a couple of kilometres ( or about a mile and a half, depending where you live) should do it.

Gear box oil should be changed after how long?and the specification of that oil?

manual gearboxes are "filled for life"BUT 100k seems right.(ep90)for auto boxes all filters/oil should be 75k (mostly town driving)and ATF is used,as with all oils the best you can afford.

My 91 Subaru Legacy shakes when I am driving, engine runs fine, could it be a engine mount or something.

some of the problems that makes the engine shake are...
spark plugs, engine mount,or one or more cylinders are not functioning.
lets just hope its a spark plug...
usually if you clean your engine...some water gets to the spark plug and then the engine starts check if the spark plugs are filled with oil or water...or anything else...or it might just be that it got warned out...good luck!

I a 99 subaru forester that will not egage into drive too

hey, it sounds like the oil level in the gearbox, it not only lubricates but it also fills servos that change the gears and if there is low oil it will take longer to gain pressure.

I am confused - I have a simple query and logged on to your site as you offered free advice! Do you not offer the service as described on your website. I definitely don't need a team of experts to answer my very simple question.

hi there, needs to be the same number. computers need to match. tourque converters are different from 2.0/2.2 to the 2.5 engines. also shift points are different between models so needs to talk to the dash perfectly. hope this helps.
