I have a 1985 Toyota truck 4x4 that starts but dies out as soon as I take my foot the accelerator. I`ve replaced cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, coil, and sprayed carb. with carb cleaner and still dies out.

Hi!!

It sounds like a vacuum leak, inspect all vacuum hoses for cracks, loose fittings or unplugged connectors, specially the ones going to the choke asembly.

Also, if your fuel pump is mechanical, that's a symptom of the pump going bad, If vacuum hoses are OK, replace fuel pump, it's under $30 at most autoparts stores.

Good Luck!!!

What is air gap on distributor pickup on 87 Toyota 4x4 pickup w/22r

The rotor spins inside the distributor cap. At the end of the rotor is a curved metal piece. At each spark plug, inside the distributor cap are metal posts that are cut out. When rotor spins inside cap a spark jumps from the rotor end to the post, to the plug wire ,to the spark plug. The space between the rotor and post in the cap where the spark jumps, is the air gap.

Causes misfire

First: check the spark plugs, check the plug wires using an ohm meter, remove and check the distributor cap for cracks, check the rotor, if any of these parts are bad replace them, just a basic tune up. Most misfires are caused by the items I mentioned.

I HAVE 1985 TOYOTA CELICA SUPRA THAT WON'T STARTED. HAVE REPLACED SPARK PLUGS, ROTOR, DISTRIBUTOR CAP. WHAT CAN I DO?

Check your fuel delivery system, if the car is turning over and not starting you might have a bad fuel pump or fuel rail. Do you smell fuel when you try and start the engine? Or there is a longshot that the timing is off. Check the timing first.

replace the coil after testing the no. 1 spark plug. pull the high tension cable and put near about 2mm from the ground. if no spark is seen. check the contact point, capacitor and distributor.

1985 Ford Ranger will not start when damp and cool outside.

possibly distributor cap getting wet. Try this. When it's not starting, remove distributor cap and dry inside and outside with hair dryer on warm setting. See if it starts then. If yes, replace cap and rotor and make sure plug wires are clean.
If it still doesn't start, you may be getting mositure in a wire connector that operates spark to plugs.

Are you getting spark at plugs when it own't start?
Check by getting a spark plug and plugging a spark plug wire into it and grounding the side of the plug. crank engine and watch for spark at gap.

1985 toyota 4x4 22re missing and rough idle

Have you pulled out the spark plugs to see if there are any tell tale signs on them. They are a good indicator of many problems that occur and can save a lot of time isolating the problem. They should all be the same colour. Is the air box and lid properly secured with no leaks or splits in the intake tube.Have you put injector cleaner in the fuel tank to clear up any possible dirty injectors.Therse a few things your problem could be including engine vacuum leak which you can find by lightly spraying carburettor cleaner around suspect places such as inlet manifold and around injector seals.
