Question about 1985 Toyota Pickup
It sounds like a vacuum leak, inspect all vacuum hoses for cracks, loose fittings or unplugged connectors, specially the ones going to the choke asembly.
Also, if your fuel pump is mechanical, that's a symptom of the pump going bad, If vacuum hoses are OK, replace fuel pump, it's under $30 at most autoparts stores.
