Hi!

If you place a fuel gauge at the service port on the fuel rail, you'll see if the initial pressure holds or drops, I had the same problem but my pump stayed on for 5 to 10 min. then quit.

Since you've changed the fuel filter, replace the Fuel Pump Relay, and if problem continues, replace FUEL PUMP.

The real test is to use a fuel pressure tester. It sounds like the fuel pump is making the initial prime but failing to build pressure. This could be a bad fuel pump or it possible that you have a bad fuel pump relay.
I would test the fuel pressure on the fuel rail first, if you have consistant pressure generally above 25PSI, (check MFG. spec..) then I would consider checking the regulator. If you lose pressure just after the start up then try replacing or swapping the fuel relay and see if this corrects it. If not then chances are your going to have to replace the pump.

My 2008 mercury mariner starts and runs about 4 sec, and then dies? We did check to see if any gaskets were sucking air, we've replaced the fuel pressure rail regulator. What do we check next?

There are a few ideas here, but my advice is to have it looked at by a Mercury dealer. Nothing like being 4 miles out and your engine fails. Mine is serviced at the end of every season and costs me about $125.

Sounds like your fuel pressure regulator. Check vacuum connection at fuel pressure regulator. That's the only easy check. the rest may have to be trial and error, i.e replacing fuel pressure regulator and then fuel pump if that doesn't work.

The fuel pressure sounds too low. Is it multi-port injection? Check the fuel pressure against your specs for the car and engine. MPFI systems usually require 40-50 psi.

Engine will start and run for 2-3 sec and die

Fuel Pump went out or a problem with the ECU but 98% of teh time, it is the Fuel Delivery System. The Fuel Injectors require 40 PSI to operate correctly and if the pressure is below that, your car will not get enough fuel to run and will DIE after starting...

1990 chevy silverado 1500 wont run

Code 12 means you are in test mode, code 34 is a problem with the map sensor, and code 35 is a problem with the idle control valve.
But those two codes could show up if you disconnect those sensors or if the engine is having other problems.
In situations where the engine stalls, it is very easy to overlook something or assume a component is working.
Treat it like a no start. Pull a plug wire and watch the spark as the engine dies. Use carb cleaner or starting fluid to boost fuel supply.
You'll have to figure out if it is loosing spark or fuel to proceed.
Things like the coil, the stator in the bottom of the dist, or a relay can be the cause. Even low fuel pressure.

1996 chevy 5.0 express van starts for about 10 sec. then dies, fuel psi starts at 60 then drops to 42 psi then dies, im thinking a pressure regulator if so where is it located.

Hi, try pulling the connector off your oil pressure switch and using a short jumper wire to connect the terminals inside. The switch is on top of the engine behind the distributor. If this works to keep the pressure up, replace the oil pressure switch. You may notice your oil pressure gauge spiking and/or the engine light may illuminate. This is normal with the jumper wire installed. Please let me know if this doesn't work or you have any questions.

Engine cranks. sparks but does not start. fuel pressure ok

Have you replaced the crank sensor? The crank sensor on top of the trans. bell housing does control the injector pulse through the ECM.
The sensor is a common problem with the Jeeps. Sometimes the sensor stops working when the engine is hot and will start again when it cools off and sometimes it dies from oil leaking on top of it or it just dies.

Possible fuel pressure regulator. Altho are u sure you're getting good spark? More testing is needed here. Need to know what your fuel pressure is with "key on engine off" and then "key on, engine ON"...then turn key off and watch pressure bleed down. Bleed down should not fall below 30 psi.
