You may indeed be a bit low on fuel pressure. This one needs a minimum of 60 psi to start properly and usually if you are just a pound or two low on pressure it will be difficult to start when the engine is cold but will then generally start ok the rest of the day as long as the engine is still a little warm...but the problem will return again as soon as it cools fully. It may also be taking too long a time to build up sufficient fuel pressure to start at any time so I'd have someone test the fuel pressure with a good, very accurate, gauge as that may tell the tale on what is happening. Good luck with your problem, hope this helps a bit!

2.5 4 cyl engine Code P0171....Black Soot in the exahaust and water...Black soot on the plugs. I have replaced the catc and muffler, MAP sensor, coolant temp sensor, coil, plugs, wires, dist cap,cleaned...

Black soot in water? You mean water in the tailpipe or black soot in the coolant in the radiator? Have you tested the manifold air temp sensor and the throttle position sensor? If they were OK, you may just have worn injectors that are allowing a bit too much fuel flow or a bad spray pattern. In the meantime, you could try replacing the plugs with a set that is one heat range hotter. If the plugs become slightly fouled, that can cause a snowball effect which makes the situation worse.

Engine tune complete..map ,iac, tps relaced..start car,put in gear, give it gas ,the car dies ..even in park, you push the gas and the car stalls

Cold starts and untill engine reaches operating temp, The coolant and intake air temp adjust the fuel like the choke in older vehicles. The MassAir Flow sensor adjusts the fuel by measuring the velocity and density of the intake air for proper air/ fuel ration. The MAF can be cleaned with CRC electrical spray cleaner, Do not rub or brush this sensor. It is as expensive as it is fragile. Spray was it as thoroughly as possible. The spray evaps fast so no compressed air. It is located in the intake ducting in a metal section of tubing. make sure your air filter is clean and leak free. Good Luck....Ned

1997 chevy astro van has poor starting problems after it sits all

hello ralph...check the coolant temp sensor. It acts as a choke to richen fuel mixture when cold. If it doesn't work correctly, hard starting will occur. Once engine reaches operating temp, the problem is usually non-existent. also....
Worn spark plugs.
Fouled spark plugs.
Worn distributor cap and rotor.
Old ignition wires.
Low engine coolant level.
Faulty MAP sensor...any of these will effect cold starting....

Good luck...i hope this helps.
