How do I replace water pump?

You need to get a repair manuel if you are going to try this your self . That water pump is driven internally by the timing chain. The pump housing also tends to corrode and sieze to the timing chain cover that it mounts to and if you are not a technician i would not recommend that you attemp this job .... you can damage the engine timing cover case very easy changing this style water pump. If you crack it you are looking at big $ to replace that cover.

When i go to check my oil i find antifreeze in my oli. then when i changed my oli again antifreeze was coming out of the oil pan at the bottom of the motor.

Ok, You are going to have to rebuild the motor that is a given. There are several possible problems that could cause this. Blown head gasket, Cracked Head, Cracked Block, a hole rubbed in the timing chain cover if a timing chain guide came free. I had a Nissan do this. A couple of the holes that the retaining bolts go in for the timing chain guide open directly into a water channel and were letting Anti Freeze run free as well as a hole being ground into the aluminum cover over the timing chain by the chain flopping around. You won't know until you open it up and inspect everything.

Blown head gasket, cracked Head or Cracked Block. In rare cases the timing chain can rub a hole in a water channel it is close to in teh front timing cover but that only happens if the timing chain guide breaks off.

    • Drive belt tensioner gm_truck_s10_tcbolts.gif

    • Timing chain cover bolts gm_truck_s10_tc.gif

    • Timing chain cover and gasket

Do not install the crankshaft balancer bolt or a bolt longer than 1 inch or damage to the crankshaft threaded hole will result.
  3. Rotate crankshaft until the number 1 piston is at Top Dead Center of compression stroke.
  4. Make sure that the alignment marks are aligned with the tabs on the timing chain tensioner. gm-03-22-611.gif

  5. Measure distance between hole in bracket and unworn surface of timing chain tensioner shoe. NOTE: If distance between the hole and unworn surface of timing chain tensioner is greater than 0.314 in (8 mm), replace tensioner, timing chain and sprockets.
  6. Remove timing chain tensioner bolts.
  7. Remove the timing chain, timing chain tensioner and camshaft sprocket at the same time.
  8. Remove the crankshaft sprocket using special tool J 22888-20A or equivalent.

  4. Install timing chain and timing chain tensioner (do not tighten tension bolts).
  5. Align the crankshaft and camshaft timing marks with the tab on the timing chain tensioner.
  6. Tighten the timing chain tensioner bolts.
    • Torque to: 18 ft lbs (24 Nm)
  7. Tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt.
    • Torque to: 96 ft lbs (130 Nm)
  8. Remove pin from timing chain tensioner hole.
  9. Remove bolt from end of crankshaft. CAUTION
Inspect the timing chain cover for warping or damage. Replace if needed.
  10. Clean all timing chain cover mating surfaces.

Ihave a 1999 saturn with a cracked chain case cover. Is this hard to replace or can it be welded .Just wondering about time estimated to replace cover.TKS.

It may be welded by someone that knows what they are doing, but covers done just crack, you need to know WHY it cracked. plus its a big job, replace all timing chain components. while its apart. Plan on at least 700.00

Timing chain cover cracked

A cracked cover will not cause a leak. Overtightening the cover will cause a problem or perhaps they mishandled it and broke it and tried to put it back on. The seals around the camshafts may be at fault. When they replaced the fuel pump they should not have messed with this so I would have them explain what they did.

Timing chain cover cracked

I never heard of a cover cracking, unless the timing chain or belt snapped. And I've worked on cars for 40 years. 10 to 1 it happened at the shop, but it can't be proved.
