Repaing the cable means you will have to join the inner cord by proper welding /galvanising the broken wire rope. If the outer is also broken then you will need to weld the outer also and do a good gringing polishing. Now insert the cable and check for very smooth freee movement. take the cable out and use good qquality grese allovver the cable and now reinsert it , repeat the work once again of greasing so that the cable is now very smooth. the end of the cable if it had been damaged must also be machined and shaped to suit the pinion in ht gear box. It will work well now. hope you try.Good day

'99 Beetle cruise control surge and speedometer has slight flutter.Occasionally speedometer drops to zero mph and cruise will then stop working. The "surge" is so bad that you can not drive with cruise on....

I would take a blind guess and sat the speedo sensor has an issue. 99' beetle should have an 01M auto, and the speed sensor is also the dipstick for the final differental drive. search around this area of the trans for the cable and snoop around. loose at the trans ? bad connection somewhere??

I need to know the number on the bearing for the 1970 beetle outer- rear please.

I suggest you purchase a repair manual for your car if you need part numbers. They are only about 15 bucks for your car. Alternatively, you can go to a beetle specialty shop and they should know what you need. One popular one is VW Parts Place Michigan. Google them, they have an online store.

Speedometer on 99 vw beetle not working

He can if it's nothing more than a broken cable, otherwise it gets real difficult. Even getting to the ends of the cable behind the dash could be a frustrating experience.

Help needed to install a speedometer on a 1969 volkswagen beetle

Open front Trunk to access speedometer, remove cardboard cover and unplug electrical connections to speedometer one at a time and mark them so you can hook them back up in the same places, then un-screw the speedometer cable and remove the two nuts that hold speedometer to dashboard.
