Severe ticking! i have been told its a lifter, ?

2003 lincoln aviator. 81000 miles. Should NOT be ticking!! Everytime i crank it, it has a severe, loud knock/tick. It is worse at times and sometimes you cant hear it at all. I am afraid to drive it.

Its more of a knock. You can hear it best when standing beside either front tires. The motor is quiet if you are standing in front looking at the engine. We just had the oil changed and we put the right fuel in it 91+. We just got it a week ago and the previous owner did not use the right fuel.

If the oil filter is stopped up,this would explain the problem,if the oil was just changed,if anything besides 5w 30w oil was used, this could be the problem,or the oil pump,is not pumping the oil.

How much for lifters on a 1998 izusu trooper? And will that make you engine nock?

Lifters generally make a tick, tick, tick noise. If you have a low tone knock, you may have more severe issues, or what you may have is heavy carbon build-up on the pistons, contacting the cylinder head(s). What I suggest first is to use fuel injection cleaner and add it to the fuel tank a few times. You can go to your local part store and see what other products they have, such as "Seafoam," to assist in carbon removal. Extreme conditions may actually require the removal of the cylinder head(s) to gain access to the top of the pistons to physically scrape the carbon from them.

I have a ticking sound when I excelerate. What could it be?

Probably a stuck lifter. Try putting a cup of transmission fluid into the engine crank case, or there are many products available for just that problem. If it doesn't stop with an additive, you'll have to get it looked at. It will eventually cause severe engine damage.

There is a ticking noise that won't quit. I've heard valve problems to timing chains. Plus that there are 6 timing chains on my vehicle. I have a 2003 ford explorer 4.0 sohc. someone please tell me how...

3 chains ONLY (1 chain from the crank to idler sprocket/ 2 from idler sprocket to cams). This ticking noise are usually associated with poor oil flow through the upper part of the engine or sticking lifters. If this vehicle has over 80k miles, have the oil pan and oil pick-screen cleaned!! If the problems not severe yet, it will go away!!

I have a ticking noise coming from rear driver side of 2003 aviat

Most likely its the exhaust pipes or muffler making the sound. It should just be the metal expanding from the heat.

If you crawl under the car you should be able to hear the part better.

2003 Rear axle whine

Hate to burst ya'll bubble but I just got my 2003 lincoln aviator back after I had a front end accident took it in to have the oil changed and check for a transmission service also wanted them to check for a front end noise. Well go figure apparently its in the front differnential in something called the "vista clutch" anway it requires a new transfer case to be purchased. Apparently it runs about $2000 with labor included. Go figure the insurance company wont pay for it after already dumping $8000 in damages already to fix and stated they would not total my truck with 83000 miles on it. Well all I can say is i was told they only go out if they are burnt out from locking the wheels up and skidding and just 1 in a 1000 goes out so I guess we are just he lucky ones. Good luck hope this helps a little also make sure ther is nothing wrong with the gears cause it could create an even bigger problem.. Peace out!
