I would suggest replacing all 4, especially if it is All Wheel Drive or 4 wheel drive and here's why. If you have a full time all wheel drive then the transmission is driving all the tires all the time. If you have some tires that are newer than others they will have a different circumference than the others which have some of the tread worn off and as a result some of the tires will be turning very slightly faster or slower than the others. This difference in speed has to be compensated for in the transfer case part of the transmission and it can cause some pretty significant stresses and wear on these components that shouldn't be there. If you have a manual or part time 4 wheel drive system the problems are similar in that something has to "give" somewhere to compensate for this slight difference. The systems will handle normal turning and manuvering fine but can't always handle mile after mile of a steady strain and they can be quite expensive to fix. I tell my customers to replace all 4 tires at the same time then rotate their tires quite frequently so they are all wearing at the same rate and to keep them all inflated to the same pressure as a tire with lower pressure will also have a smaller circumference. Hope this helps a bit and good luck!

You may replace 2, preferably on the same axle, and of the same size and type recommended by the placard on the door or in the manual.

It's preferable to change all 4 at the same time so that the tread is deep all the way around, but not necessary, for economic reasons.

One can put the best 2 of the old on front, and then the new ones on the rear.

And, then rotate every 5,000 mi. or so, front to back and back to front.

Rear wheel drive you can do 2 , all wheel drive no , it puts a major strain on the driveline spinning wheels at different speeds.

If one tire is damaged do you need to replace all four tires on an AWD.

Not really.
While it is recommended by most auto makers and tire companies to replace tires in sets of 2 or 4 it is not a requirement.
As long as the tires are all the same size and style, you should be ok with replacing just one.

I have a small side wall leak in one tire and was told that I would have to replace all 4 tires because my Forester is all wheel drive. Is this true?

If all 4 tires are the same age and the leak is due to cracking yes for safety all 4 should be replaced. All tires have a mfg date on the side a small 4 digit code 3606 would be made 36th week of 2006. Tire do age even though they look fine.

Cheap tires for an Expensive car

All car manufactures do this 30,000 mile tires only to add 4 tires that cost 100.000 each and sell 1000 cars would cost them 40,000 dollors and a million times 4 would be 4 million times 100.00 dollars you get the picture? 40 million dollars for tires. When I got my new truck I ordered better tires and it cost me $150.00 to upgrade to 50,000 tires. you pay for what you get.

Tire pressure sensor continues to say check tire pressure when tire pressure is ok. Does sensor need to be replaced or can it be cleaned or what?

The first step in diagnosis would be to make sure all the sensors are calibrated to the car which requires a tool that some tire dealers & car dealers have.

2006 Hyundai Santa Fe all wheel drive tire replacement

The engineers say all four tires should be same diameter so the transfer case takes no damage. THE question is how much can that vary...like partially worn tires mixed with new. Generally if your old pair of tires have half tread or more then match with the same type. If your old pair have less than half tread buy 4 tires of your choice

We have a flat on an AWD ford . Do we need to replace all 4 tires

Hello;
You will need to replace the tire with the same size tire. It should be the same brand as the other tires. I suggest that if your other tires are marginal, replace all four tires. You do want to keep the circumference of each tire the same. Hope this helps.
Thanks;
