One of the pulleys should be a tensioner. meaning you put a wrench or a socket on the bolt head in the center of the pulley and crank on it. slip the belt on all pulleys and then release the pressure on the wrench.

2003 Nissan xterra wont start battery starter alternator all good everything interior works lights dash radio air conditioner how ever when you hit the break everything goes off

Check all Ground Points. Battery cables can look good but not be. You should use a DVOM to check for voltage drops from battery to where ever the grounds go to. Also use the DVOM to check the battery cable terminal and post. Put one lead on the battery post and the other on the cable terminal. The DVOM should read 0 or very close to it.

2003 nissan xterra v-6 does it have a timing chain or belt and if it has a belt when does it need to be changed?

It has a timing belt, not a chain. Easy enough to check your owners manual. From memory, belt is to be replaced at about 100,000 miles or 160,000 km give or take.

Nissan xterra 2003 car noisy problem

If it's the water pump there should be water leaking, if it's the steering pump the noise  would change as you turn the steering wheel left to right. If it's constant, it could be just old belt and bad idler and tension pully. Start buy praying a little water to the belt while the engine is running and if the noise goes away, the belt is in time to be chaged. If the noise is still there, then most likly it's the ilder bering or tension bearing. Good luck

I have the same problem in my Nisan Titanwhen it has rained lately. Either moisture has gotten into the pulley system, or the belt is loose. it could be something else though.
