Question about Dodge Ram 1500

1 Answer

Ac compressor clutch does not have power going to it. Clutch relay is energizing and both pressure switches are closed. Is there any other device that can break the circuit? 1997 dodge ram 1500

You most likely have a wire .or connection problem, the ac clutch relay directs 12 volts directly to the ac clutch,if needed, find the wire, from relay,to the ac clutch, and run a new one to correct the problem,if his was at all helpful please rate, thank you.

The relay would not be energizing if it needed to be reset, the wire is not making contact to the clutch,it may have burned out somewhere along with the bad clutch.

But to reset, remove the negative battery terminal for 25 seconds.

My acura mdx ac compressor is not coming on

If low on gas, AC clutch will not be energized. Check for clutch operation by bypassing the low pressure cut off switch. If ac starts to run that is the problem. If it still does not energize then the clutch on AC compressor is bogus.

Why is the clutch not engaging when a/c is turned on?

bad clutch; bad coil in clutch; no power to energize clutch no refrigerant in system and more

Ac relay not energizing

The engine computer commands the relay on based on input from the dash control and the ac pressure switch. You may need a shop manual to troubleshoot the circuits.

No current to ac compressor

A mechanic would start at the compressor and work back.
Did you jumper the low pressure switch, or the relay, or put power directly to the ac clutch ?
You have a low pressure switch that should be closed and a high pressure switch that should be closed to put power to the compressor clutch. If the freon pressure drops below 20psi the low switch opens, if it goes above 300 psi the high switch opens.

What energizes ac relay on 2005 freestar

The low side pressure switch in the AC low pressure line signals the PCM (computer control) to close the AC compressor relay and raise the idle speed. If the system is low on refrigerant charge the relay will not allow the system to engage the compressor, this is because the oil that lubricates all the works is suspended in the AC refrigerant, if that is low then the system gets no lubrication and will quickly seize up..

Air conditioner not working on 1993 bonnevile, compressor not engaging, charge good, power at low pressure switch, switch is closed, need to know what turns a/c relay for compressor clutch on, clutch...

the ECM supplies the ground circuit for the a/c clutch. the high pressure switch also needs to be closed to engage the clutch. when the low pressure switch and the high pressure switch are closed that completes the power circuit to trigger the relay.then the power on the #30 terminal can connect to the #87 terminal to send power to the a/c clutch.

I have a 2002 buick lesebre and the ac is not working.. on the back of the pump there is a plug going to the tube and then the tube runs to the ac pump so I pulled that plug and it has power going to it....

{: ) The a/c blower controls is independent of the a/c compressor system. Meaning, the blower can still deliver air even if your compressor system is not working or not cooling.
I assume your blower functions are okay, since you are now focused on probing power to all those connectors near the compressor.
If I imagine it right, the first plug you pulled has three wires on it and it should be the a/c refrigerant pressure sensor. The next plug you said where the a/c clutch is, has two wires on it, and obviously that's the a/c clutch/compressor connector. Just for safety reminders, never apply direct 12v power to any of those plugs that you pulled, especially the pressure sensor, because you may damage the PCM and other components and will only worsen the problem. I'll show you a sample diagram of the compressor controls just to give you an idea. A/C Controls 101:
wyet_helps_14.gif
The red lines indicate the flow of 12v power once the relay is energized. Power from the battery flows thru the A/C CLU fuse at the underhood fuseblock (you can check this fuse if busted) and then flows thru the a/c relay (you may also substitute a similar relay for testing) going to the compressor. This continuos flow happens only when the relay is activated.
The green line indicates the request signal coming from the PCM to energize the relay. The PCM monitors several inputs like the pressure sensor inputs, the a/c control switch on the dashboard, the engine temp, and others. Based on gathered inputs it will decide when to give a request signal to energize the relay that will activate the compressor.
So you see, if one of the inputs do not agree, or if there is a fault on the engine sensors, the a/c controller, or the PCM itself, no 12v power will be present on the a/c clutch connector.
The fuse, relay, and clutch can be easily tested with basic tools like the test light or multimeter. But if the fault comes from the control signals, you will need a more comprehensive diagnostic approach. A scan tool is very effective in diagnosing signal faults.
You may need to check also the refrigerant charge. So goodluck.

I have a 02 lincoln ls . the air conditiong is not working . i took it to a local shop they check the compressor, fuses, relays, pressure swithches, all is checcking out good. They jump the compressor...

YOU COULD HAVE OPEN OR SHORT IN THE BLACK YELLOW WIRE GOING TO AC COMPRESSOR CYCLING PRESSURE SWITCH. CHECK FOR A SHORT OR OPEN IN RED YELLOW WIRES AT THE AC PRESSURE CUTOFF SWITCH. USE VOLT METER AND CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT BOTH SWITCHES. PROBLEM COULD BE IN THE EATC MODULE THAT SEND POWER TO PURPLE WIRE THAT FEEDS THE AC PRESSURE CUTOFF SWITCH AND AC CLUTCH CYCLING PRESSURE SWITCH THEN FEEDS THE AC COMPRESSOR CLUTCH SOLENOID.

Problem is that the AC CUT OFF relay energised permanently. therefore electric clutch of compressor swicthed off permanatly, because current to compressor clutch goes through NC (Normally Closed) contact...

check for the cut off switch or sensor on the a/c plumbing to see if normally closed or normally open, and if it is causing the the AC Cut of relay to be energized permanently.

See if disconnecting the switch on the plumbinug changes anything. Or if using a test light to ground out the terminals does anything different on the AC system.

CHECK AC COMPRESSOR CLUTCH SHOULD BE ENGAGED OR RUNNING WITH AC SWITCH ON POSITION.IF NOT CHECK AC COMPRESSOR CLUTCH FUSE AND RELAY.IF BOTH GOOD AND POWER IS GOING TO AC CLUTCH.YOUR CLUTCH IS OPEN.IF ALL LOOKS GOOD YOUR AC LOW PRESSURE SWITCH IS BAD.COMPRESSOR SEIZED OR YOU HAVE TOO MUCH MOISTURE IN AC SYSTEM.
