Hello. I used to work in a GM dealer. It is seldom the EGR valve that is the problem. If it is code P1404, the problem is a PCM calibration. Take it to a local dealer and they can reflash the PCM. If you want to get technical about it, the PCM is and emission control device and should be covered by warranty for 8 years or 80,000 miles.

You have 2 oxygen sensors, and they are mounted in the exhaust, one before and one after the catalytic converter. I am pretty sure the upstream one is threaded into the exhaust manifold, and is easy to find.
