Question about 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300-Class
Try changing the brake light switch on the top of the brake pedal. If you have checked the hydraulics and checked all the wiring connections to the wheel and axle speed sensors then you need to get the fault codes read. There are only a limited no of analogue codes for the ASD system but might help pinpoint the fault.

ASD stands for Automatic Slip Differental, it is like positraction but works differently., it is controlled by a hydraulic pressure circuit off the power steering pump, the system needs to be tested by the dealer to see what the cause of the light is, at this time the system is disabled

First the sensor in the rear gearbox may be bad or corroded for sensing wheel speed. Also the engine wiring harness may be falling apart. From 1991-1995 the US made MB use biodegradable material on the wiring. When the insulation cracks you get shorts in the system. The same wires are in your EHA on the air inlet area. Check and replace as needed.
