For Jaguar 2000 XK8 convertible error codes:
P0172 - System Too Rich, Bank 1: Probable cause = Intake blocked, EVAP canister purge valve, fuel pressure, EGR system, injector(s), HO2S (heated oxygen sensor).

So each commented cause is a different possible reason for the error code? Is there any DIY actions that may be taken?

Yes, you can take some DIY actions as follows:

    1. Check up the intake manifold throttle if it is not blocked in close position inside throttle body, and also if the throttle can correctly smooth rotating between full open and full close positions. Clean inside the throttle body assembly if necessary.

    2. Verify EVAP canister purge valve for correct working. Clean EVAP canister purge valve if necessary.

    3. Check up fuel pressure in the fuel supply line & rail.

    4. Verify EGR system & clean inside EGR system if necessary.

    5. Check all 8 injectors for leaks! Could be one or more leaking injectors, and therefore fuel mixture (& exhaust gases) too rich!

    6. In the last case could be bad heated oxygen sensors HO2S.

I have a 2000 saturn ls2 i replaced the mass air flow sensor now i have codes p0172 and p0175 how do i reset the pcm

use a scan tool to reset the ECM
you may have damaged or installed a faulty MAF unit
the codes you have are for (p0172) system too lean--bank 1===causes intake blocked --EVAP canister purge valve---fuel pressure--EGR system---injector/s---HO2S ( heated oxygen sensor in the exhaust manifold before the cat converter (p0175) refers to system too rich-bank 2=== the causes are the same as for the first code
AS the HO2S is responsible for reporting the exhaust gas composition to the ECM to adjust air/fuel mixture --rich or lean, I would suggest that you recheck the operation of that MAF unit wiring and then the HO2S sensors

You own a high end luxury vehicle as do I, 2005 ES330, the dealership is the best place to get Lexus problems fixed. With my own vehicle, I had a thermostat fault code come up, and like you it would reset itself and come back. The code said it was the thermostat and I queried it with my tyre guy. He also said it is a thermostat code. I said but it isn't overheating. He told me that the computers in Lexus are so clever they are actually looking for the water to reach x degrees in x minutes. He replaced the thermostat, the fault never came back. Anyway back to your P0172 Error code.

Possible causes
Faulty front heated oxygen sensor
Ignition misfiring
Faulty fuel injectors
Exhaust gas leaks
Incorrect fuel pressure
Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor

The first thing I would try is that stuff that you add to your fuel to clean the injectors.

2002 MR2 fuel system too rich bank 1 and bank 2

Peter. The dealer did diagnose the problem. They said the car needed all 3 oxygen sensors replaced. They were replaced and the car is now returning codes p0172 and p0175 which are the only 2 codes coming up when the check engine light came on. My question is if the dealer sold me the incorrect oxygen sensors could this cause the computer to incorrectly set the p0172 and p0175 rich fuel mixture codes. There are no other codes coming up. My plan at this point is to check and clean the MAF, check my fuel pressure, and also the TPS but I did not want to waste my time if it could possibly be that the new oxygen sensors where the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Need to solve po172 error code

P0172 - System Too Rich (Bank 1)
Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a rich condition (too little oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1.

Note: This DTC is very similar to P0175, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time. You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a misfire.

A code P0172 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
* There could be a vacuum leak.
* There could be a fuel pressure or delivery problem

Hope this helps; remember to rating this free answer.

Check engine light (emission system service required) Help?!?!

There may be problem with the mass air flow sensor (very common with Volvo). This causes the fuel system to malfunction.

You may have noticed increased fuel consumption, loss of power and general 'lazyness'.

Better to take it to authorized Volvo service for a checkup/fix.
