What can cause trouble code p0118 engine coolant temp sensor ( high voltage input ) 99 intrepid 2.7 v6

The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor is a variable resistor, that measures the temperature of the engine coolant. The ECT sensor has a signal circuit and a low reference circuit. The engine control module (ECM) supplies 5 volts to the ECT signal circuit and a ground for the ECT low reference circuit. When the ECT is cold, the sensor resistance is high. When the ECT increases, the sensor resistance decreases. With high sensor resistance, the ECM detects a high voltage on the ECT signal circuit. With lower sensor resistance, the ECM detects a lower voltage on the ECT signal circuit. If the ECM detects an excessively high ECT signal voltage, which is a low temperature indication, DTC P0118 sets. You have A bad coolant temp sensor or a wiring problem !

On a cold start i have no high idle for warm up

coolant temp sensor and intake air temp sensor would be the next to check.intake air temp sensor is in the air intake tunnel between TB air air box. when running is there a DTC? by disconnecting the coolant temp sensor you put the ecm values at default try that if it corrects your issue replace it.(it will turn your check engine light on but you can clear later by disconnecting battery)

Where is the temp sensor located and is it easily replaced?

There will two type of sensor, both are located on the upper thermostat housing, one is a sending unit, the other is temp sensor,if you pull one sensor and the temp gauge suddenly drop that is your temp sending unit.If you pull the other one and the vehicle kicks a high idle on and check engine light appears then you have the temp sensor

My 1994 bwm 325 is is running hot, just replaced the radiator, and thermostat

does the auxillary fan come on?

3speeds. Low speed when the A/C is activated. If it doesn't come on at this time it isn't coming on when the high temp sensor tells it to.

If it does, it should come on when the high temp sensor tells it to, if not, look for three things, temp sensor, fuse, relay.

Radiator fan not turning on time

Check the rad fan fuse or the relay under the hood.
Is the temp going too high? Check and make sure you are not low on rad fluid (engine cool). An air pocket where the fan temp sensor on the rad is located will not activate the sensor.

Failing that, check the rad temp sensor which activates the fan. If this sensor does not close at high temp...the fan won't work.

Trouble Code 33 and 34 are the MAF/MAP Sensor Circuit. It sounds like you've replaced that sensor already. Did you also have the code 34 before putting in the new sensor?
Or did this code start after it's replacement? Any other codes appearing?

Troubleshooting it would depend if it has the Speed Density Update. The dealer should be able to provide that info.

Here's your fault code list:

13 oxygen sensor circuit 14 coolant temp sensor circuit (high temp) 15 coolant temp sensor circuit (low temp) 21 throttle position sensor (TPS) circuit (high signal) 22 throttle position sensor (TPS) circuit (low signal) 23 manifold air temp (MAT) circuit (low temp) 24 vehicle speed sensor (VSS) circuit 25 manifold air temp (MAT) circuit (high signal) 31 wastegate solenoid electrical circuit 32 exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) circuit 33 mass air flow (MAF) circuit (gm/sec high) 34 mass air flow (MAF) circuit (gm/sec low) 41 cam sensor circuit 42 C3I EST or bypass circuit failure 43 electronic spark control (ESC) circuit 44 oxygen sensor circuit (lean exhaust) 45 oxygen sensor circuit (rich exhaust) 51 PROM error 52 calpak error 55 ECM error
