Question about 2000 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

My daughter has a 2000 Dodge Caravan 3.8..Its got no pressure in the fuel rail..First i replaced the fuel filter,,Then put in used pump..still nothing..So i returned it and got another pump.Still no fuel,,no pressure.Under the hood, left side fender i believe is the fuel pump pressure regulator valve(correct me if im wrong ) i believe..fuel lines go into it before fuel rail..I took it apart..while it was still attached and i pulled up on the plunger inside it that worked a diafram...had some one turn the car over..still nothing..I am stumped..Is this the pressure regulator...and is this the problem..Also...while underneath the van i noticed further towards the front, the lines went into a big square box..Could their be something inthair that controls pressure

When you turn on the ignition to start vehicle can you hear a buzzing sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. That sound is the fuel pump pressurizing the fuel system. If you do not hear that noise then the pump is not working. Check fuel pump connection for power, if no power check fuse, relay and ground

2000 DODGE CARAVAN SE HARD TO START JUST SPINS AND FINALLY STARTS IF YOU PUSH ON GAS PEDAL STARTS FASTER

bring this to a service repair center an have a fuel pressure gauge hooked up to it..it sounds like the check valve in the fuel system is allowing the gas to drain back into the fuel tank, when u press the gas pedal it commands the fuel pump to pump extra gas into the system filling the fuel rails back up with fuel allowing it to start faster....

Im looking for the fuel pressure regulator for a dodge gran caravan 2000 i will thank you so much if you give me a clue.

you need to make sure that it has a fuel return line. l'm sure that there is only one fuel line going to the fuel injector rail and the regulator is bulit in the fuel filter by the fuel tank. if you are having low fuel pressure you should replace the fuel pump and filter with either a factory pump or one made by
AC Dleco or Delphi. they are very reliable parts. if you buy another brand you will be doing the same job again sooner than you would like to.

It sounds (based on your description) like there is a Fuel problem:
1. Check the fuel pressure at the port on the Fuel Rail. Check especially when operating at higher RPM's than at idle or stop. At these levels there is enough gas being provided to keep the engine going. At higher RPM's the Pressure/Volume may not be enough causing the stalling.
2. When was the last time the Fuel Filter was changed? Change this and check operation before moving onto to #3.
3. The Fuel Pump. If the Fuel Pressure and Volume at the Fuel Port is falling at higher RPM's and the Fuel Filter did not help: It sounds like the Fuel Pump is failing. These will fail especially after they warm-up. This problem (losing power and dying) will happen more and more frequently and the Fuel Pump will eventually die all together.
You have to replace the Fuel Filter when you install a new Fuel Pump - it is part of the warranty.
4. The Fuel Injectors: If the Fuel Pressure/Volume at the Fuel Rail is fine, then it is not the Fuel Filter or the Fuel Pump. The problem is "downstream". It may be the electrical aspect of the Fuel Injectors or the mechanical side of the Fuel Injectors themselves. Check each Fuel Injector for correct voltage. If the voltage is correct - Pull and replace that corresponding Fuel Injector. I actually recommend: if you have to replace more that one Fuel Injector - go ahead and replace them all.

Under vehicle, driver side, below seating area, front of fuel tank, mounted on frame rail in fuel line.

1996 Dodge Caravan with a 3.0L . Long cranking time before starti

You need to do a fuel pressure check.. You will need a special fuel gauge and the appropriate fittings and adapters are needed to properly test the fuel pressure.

1. Relieve the fuel pressure.
Remove the fuel pump relay form the Power Distribution Center (PDC) Start the engine and run until it stalls. attempt restating the engine until it will no longer run. Turn the ignition key off. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Replace the fuel pump relay in the PDC. Any if you get any trouble codes at this time you will need to see a shop to have them cleared.

2. Disconnect the quick-connect fuel line fitting fuel gauge into the fuel line using the appropriate T-fitting and adapters.

3. Start the engine and check the pressure on the gauge, your reading should be 49 PSI with the pressure with the engine idling.

4. if the fuel pressure is not 49 PSI:
1) if fuel pressure is higher you could have a pinched of clogged fuel return hose of pipe. if the line is not obstructed check the fuel pressure regulator.
2) if fuel pressure is lower check the fuel filter, look for a pinched of clogged fuel hose between the tank and the fuel rail. check the pressure regulator for malfunctions. Look for leaks in the fuel line.

Hope this helps.
