My 1991 park avenue starts and seems to run fine for maybe twenty miles, and then will begin to starve for fuel, as it begins to diesel very bad, and only run smooth at very light acceleration. if i pull over and turn engine off for 5 or 10 min. it will run fine again for a while and then do the same thing. i have changed the fuel filter but it didn't help. am thinking it could be a bad fuel pump relay.hopefully not the fuel pump. what do you think?

Hi, it could well be the pump but give this a try, next time you use the car leave the fuel filler cap off just for this test then see if the car cuts out or not, im saying this because the problem could be an airlock in the tank, if the breather has become blocked then this could be causing the fuel not to pump correctly so just for one journey leave the filler cap off but dont lose it then have a drive and see if it cuts out.

the thing is with the pump you would have the problem all the time it wouldnt just start after say 20miles the fault would be their constant thats why im thinking air lock.

let me know what happens ok

when the car is hot do you have any troubles starting it let me know

i will try your fuel cap solution, but i am thinking i tried that once before , buy not sure. to answer your question, i have no problem with the car ever starting.

if it start fine when hot then that rules out a heat related issue,
Have you tried buying a fuel line cleaner, you can buy these from most filling stations and car spares shops. A good brand to buy is call Red X just make sure you buy correct type ie diesel and not petrol then just follow the instruction on the back of bottle, how it will tell you pour this into a full tank of fuel now dont do this pour it into half a tank of fuel then do the following
1, for first 15 to 20 min drive normal
2 for next 15 to 20 min drive a bit harder pulling away faster and taking the revs up higher
3 then drive normal for last 15 min
doing this will ensure all the fuel lines and pump and injectors are cleaned properly under pressure, most people who have the problem your having usually find out they have picked up some dirty fuel thats causing them problems and after using this product they no longer have any problems.

if it solves you problem then it would be a good idea to use this product every 6 to 8 weeks just to ensure it keeps your engine running at its best, it also improves mpg and will ensure all you fuel lines are clean and free from muck

give the above a try and you should find you will have no further problems

let me know how you get on ok

I have a 2007 Suzuki xl7. When I first start down the road it seems to drive fine but within 1/2 to 1 mile it starts running very rough, leaping along. This goes for about another 1 to 3 miles. It runs...

ok and XL 7 but what engine options. gas, diesel, 2L , 2.5L?
what?
and most important , and never ever 1 time stated on this forum
what country.
leaping?

im not sure what you are saying.
it runs ok cold, and as it warms , the engine. it stalls.?
and what does same thing mean.?
my guess, it starts fine then stalls; hot.
but can you save the stall?

stalling is complex. can be many systems in the car.
but can be broken down to :
Ever did the 60k mile tune up,ever? if not why not.
never skip 60k\'s or the motor will run like garbage.

1: lost electrical power. to EFI .
2: bad engine, in that when it gets hot , it loses compression.
3: lost park. 1 or more cylinders, 4 or 6 you never said.
4: bad injection. 1 or 6 of them, flooding or starving.
5: bad fuel.
6:EGR sticking , usually this happens just before a stop sign.
7: if the stall was a bog and the fast right foot saved the stall, easy
the ISC is sticking closed.

2001Buick Park Avenue occasionally running rough

You personally can not test an ecm

Very few professionals attempt that,
as it doesn't fail often & it takes very little
to smoke one, trying to test something you
know little about even with wiring diagrams

Do you not take the car in a couple times
a year to a shop you have used for years
with good luck?

I have a 1998 Buick Park Avenue. 94K. Transmission seems fine, but sometimes feels rough (knocks) between gears. Then, if I turn the car off and wait a few seconds, it seems to "reset" and begins...

Could be something sticking.Trans filter should be changed at least every 40,000-50,000 miles. If it has never been changed or has over 50,000 since the last filter service would start with a fluid flush and filter change.Well hope this helps, and good luck.

Starting problem, battery? alternator??

Unless you have good jumper cables it would start easy since I didn't get in on the begining of this I will assume you have a bad connection tothe starer or a bad starter if it drags.
