Absolutely not.. It will come out by releasing tension on the belt and working it around the pulleys..It's tight but it will come.

Loop the belt aroun the crank pulley first .. and then lay the belt ( back side down ) across the water pump. If you need a diagam let me know.

The tensioner is to the right of the fan on the driver's side. if you look from the top there is a 14mm bolt to loosen. after doing that, start wrapping by belt diagram on radiator shield. its not hard may take 15 mins max

Bad waterpump 1996 jeep grand 4.0L how long to remove and replace?

It's easier to remove the radiator, fan and belt. in order to remove you will need to remove the cover over the radiator. It sounds like a lot but easier to get to and plus this will give you a good opportunity to change the belt and have the radiator flushed out. It can be flushed out by you. Anyways. to remove parts about 45min - 1 hr. to install is the same amount, just be sure the gasket on the pump is ready and dry. You take just the belt and fan off and still take the pump out. It may take a total of 3 hrs to do all if you've never did this.

How do i change a water pump on 1996 grand cherokee limited V8

I'll assume you have a 4.0l

The 4.0L engine is equipped with a reverse rotation (counterclockwise) water pump. The word REVERSE is stamped or imprinted on the cover of the viscous fan drive and on the inner side of t he fan. The letter R is stamped onto the water pump impeller. When replacing water pump, ensure proper pump is installed. Installation of the wrong water pump will cause engine overheating.

NOTE:On models with 4.0 L engine, front grill must be removed to access radiator draincock. Draining cooling system can be accomplished by removing drain plug from side of block as well as by loosening radiator draincock. Drain plug is located on lower left side of engine block.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Disconnect electric cooling fan connector. Remove electric cooling fan and electric fan shroud assembly (if equipped).
Loosen, but do not remove, 4 water pump pulley-to-water pump hub bolts and 4 viscous fan-to-idler pulley nuts. Remove accessory drive belt. Remove 4 viscous fan to idler pulley nuts, and remove fan and shroud together.
Remove 4 water pump pulley bolts and remove pulley. Remove power steering pump and bracket. Disconnect heater hoses and lower radiator hose at water pump. Remove 4 water pump retaining bolts. Remove water pump.

to install just reverse procedures

How do i put a new radiator in?

This can be very labor intensive, as it was in my 94 grand cherokee. You'll need to remove the serpentine belt, fan and fan shroud, as well as the front grill and that metal plate that the hood latches into. Drain the radiator (save the fluid). Disconnect all hoses and lines. Remove the old one, and insert the new one. You'll likely have to pull back on the A/C condensor (located in front of the radiator) to get it in. The radiator is held in place by two plastic pegs at the bottom. DO NOT BREAK THESE! It will ruin your day. Assemble the hoses and lines back on, and re-install the components identified above. Since it's a 95, expect to deal with some stuck bolts. I reccomend using PB blaster to free these up. It'll make life a lot easier for you.
