Question about 2000 Buick LeSabre

2 Answers

Car sat up without being be driven or cranked for over 1 year. When we finally charged the battery and got it cranked, the air conditioner compressor would not come on. We put freon in and it started working, but only on one side of the car. But it appears after a day the freon leaked out and the compressor will not cut on again. I was told and O ring could be bad because it sat up for so long. Where is the O ring located?

There are several o - rings in the system .. You really need to give it a charge and put a sniffer to it to find the leak . It could be anywhere from the condenser to core.

There is an O-ring on every joint , it is not just one, it is all. They have little 20 OZ bottles of freon at walmart and auto parts stores that you can do yourself, they have freon, oil and sealer in them, it will leak out a couple times, but eventually seal, it is a lot cheaper than the AC shop. $20 for the bottle, has a gauge on it and everything. Check it out.

6 YEARS IS A LONG TIME FOR A BATTERY TO LAST. YOU ARE LUCKY. I WOULD GET A NEW INTERSTATE BATTERY & CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM, TO MAKE SURE IT IS OK. MOTOR RUNNING, THE VOLTAGE AT THE BATTERY SHOULD BE BETWEEN 13.90 & 14.80.

Running so few miles has accelerated the aging of the battery - the battery never had a chance to fully recharge in such small trips -  so now you have to replace it a year sooner than usual.
Just replace it.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Diesel air conditioner not

You cannot accuratly check the freon level without compressor engaged. Without car running that needle better be pegged or its low. Charge with car running with dials set to max cool with fan speed on hi. Slowly while charging with compressor engaged bring it up to 2K rppms while filling. Should take around 3 cans. Get the stuff with stop leak.

I have a Jetta 99 GLS w/197K. I took the car to the mechanic and they said it was the compressor. Repairs are approx 1K. My question is, can the car be driven as is? I do not know what is the corrleation...

I presume the compressor you refer to is the air conditioner compressor.
If so, the car can be usually be driven as normal so long as you don't operate the air conditioner cooling. With the air conditioner off, the compressor is not in use.
If the fault with the a/c compressor is with the front bearing (drive noise or belt squeal) you may need to remove the drive belt.

Clicking sound but wont turn over

Sounds like your starter solenoid has gone bad.  You could try to just change the solenoid but given the year of the car i would probably just replace the whole starter.  Most importantly i would take the starter into AutoZone or another auto parts store and have them test it.  They can also test/charge the battery for you.  Should be a simple fix.  Let me know if I can help further.  Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa.com
