Hi Brenda

I'd like you to check the oil level in your engine and in the transmission. It sounds like the oil is low and when you change gradients it is starving the engine, ie. no lubrication as all of the oil is away from the oil pickup pipe.

Does the oil light come on when you feel the hesitancy? If so, see above.

I assume it is not an old Pontiac Grand Prix? If it is, then the fuel bowl in the carbuerretor is not giving enough fuel when you change gradients. A slightly higher pressure fuel pump would help.

If it is a newer Pontiac, then the same fuel starvation could occur, but this would only be due to a lack of gas in the tank. Does it only happen when the fuel is running low, or all of the time?

I hope I have helped you and given you ideas of what to check for the next time it happens. If it is the oil, then I would change it and refill to the correct level. Check for metal filings in the old oil in case starvation has occurred and there has been metal on metal grinding happening in the engine.

Thank you. I haven't seen the oil light come on. I'll tell my husband about the fuel pump etc.

    Thanks for the additional information.

I would replace the fuel filter, run it for a few days and if the problem still persists, then the fuel pump will most likely need changing.

If the vehicle is turning while exiting off the ramp either left or right, your problem could be related to fuel pressure. The fuel is pushed to either side of the tank when turning, and may be starving the fuel pump just enough to affect the fuel pressure due to an already weak fuel pump. I would have the pressure checked to verify it is up to specs.

Understood, but it could still be related to fuel pressure.

Thank you for your comments, it makes sense. Another thing that
happens is if I am stuck in traffic the temperature gauge climbs faster
than I would like to see happen. My husband thinks it could be a
faulty engine fan. Could this be possible and if so how do you
    check that?

Failure to start

Check the Fuel Filter and pump. It sounds like you have an over heat problem in the fuel pump unit or air in the fuel line that is causing vapor lock. This can happen when you let the gas level get below 1/4 tank depending on the temperatures in your area.

2001 chevy venture engine hesitating

there could be several reasons for this type of problem. the engine is controled through main computer(ECM) and the sensors assocciated with it. most often times a hesitation is commonly a idle issue and that would be monitored by the TPS ( throttle position sensor) if this is beginning to fail it sends faulty reradings to the computer and the computer tries to compensate and sometimes either leans or richens the fuel air mixture cause and effect is a engine stall or a hesitation. another factor is your (O2) sensors these monitor your exaust and tell the ECM to adjust accordingly the fuel mixture also. a sure fire way to tell if one ore more sensors are faulty is to either have your check engine light come on or if there is a rough start. if the check engine light isn't on then i would think there is a timing issue involved and a tune up is in order. the tune up is simple by just changing plugs and wires, however the timing is computer controled and can only be adjusted by a certified tech with the proper equipment. try and change the plugs and wires first this is the least expensive way to solve your problem. if the problem persists then take it to a shop and have a tech hook up diagnostic tools to check the ecm for fault codes to narrow down whatsensors if any are faulty.

most likely its your fuel pump. when the rpm's start to drop just give the gas pedal a few pumps and you should be good.
