Question about 2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE

Low oil pressure light came on today and found oil to be very low. added oil and found major leak on backside of engine. Where would it be comming from.

Did you suddenly loose all oil as well? Once you loose all oil pressure you must shut engine off IMMEDIATLY to prevent major engine damage.. How low is oil now? If very low and you really lost all pressure, engine may be junk.

When an engine overheats and coolant gets low, first thing that happens is no heat from heater-the heater core doesn't get good circulation. When coolant stops being lost, the heater will return.

Sounds like you are adding a lot. Don't run the engine long overheating or major damage will result-if not already. Any milky junk in your oil? I would have a pressure test of the cooling system to look for leaks and check for pressure-if it won't hold pressure, it is leaking somewhere. Do a compression test to check the head gaskets.

It sounds like you've done just about everything except to check if there is a bad or intermittent wire causing this or perhaps your low-pressure safety cutout switch is possible going bad causing the compressor to kick on and off?

Leaking oil tahoe

The rear seal of the engine could have started to leak but a loose oil pan or damaged oil filter could be a factor.

Ac compressor not engaging

The most common problem is low Freon levels. There is a low pressure switch which can be bypassed for testing, to see if the compressor clutch will engage or not.
You will need a pressure gauge later on, and some refill cans have built in gauges which come with them. The better way to do this is using proper gauges called "Manifold" gauges. Some may be borrowed from major autoparts stores.
The rule of thumb is that the system should not be contaminated with outside air containing moisture. A low pressure condition may be Restored by adding Freon with leak stop. But an empty system needs to be Vacuum pumped to eliminate moisture. A badly drained system may need compressor oil too.
Leak stop can help some systems, especially if the leak is on the low pressure side. There are gauges called sniffers, which can detect a leak. There are also chemical leak detectors for about $20 having ultraviolet light and glowing detector dye.
While this all may sound vague, it amounts to having a small leak that can be helped with leak stop and catching the problem before the system is completely drained. Every case is different.
Figure that you do not know when the leak started. If it was 5 years ago to run empty is different than 5 weeks or 5 days to lose all the Freon. The smaller the leak, the better chance that stop leak will repair it.
There are some CD's at Autoparts stores which will explain the repair process.
Also take into account that some techniques discussed in earlier times used $3 cans of Freon for testing. Today each can costs $7 to $17 and a car uses 3 or more cans for a refill.
So bypass the low pressure switch with a wire loop, then use leak detector with a leak stop before topping off the system. Look for leaks. If none are found, use the gauges and add Freon.
If you suspect the Low pressure switch is bad, then it is easily replaced without discharging the system.

Oil light never came on, I decide to put 4 quarts due to it being 10 months since change, since doing so low oil light has come on

4 quarts means that youve got one serious leak and your slicking up the roads for every body... you should get out some tools and see what you can snug up to slow the leak, as for the light, your driving a cheap vehicle so what do you expect ?

Have the vehicle properly diagnosed... it could very well be the oil pump - don't risk burning up the engine by oil starvation... get someone to check the oil pressure.

There is a puddle of oil in the drive where I park my 2001 Pontiac Montano. Five days ago added oil; while driving today the dash light came on and read 'low engine oil'.

An oil leak can be from almost anywhere. One good place to start is to make sure your oil filter is tight. Oil pressure sending units do go bad and can leak a good amount of oil. Then there is the rear main seal that sometimes leaks and of coarse the oil pan. The best thing to do is to raise the front of the car up and put it on stands, start the engine and slide under to see where its actually leaking.

I have bmw 318I the oil indicator for motor appear when use break

The engine is low on oil. but assuming it is not.
The engine is either idling to low .
The engine oil pressure itself is low. The engine oil pressure switch is leaking or not reading the oil pressure in the car.
I assume there is not knocking noise from the engine.
I would check for any oil leaks on the engine .
IF there are no leaks , I would change the oil pressure sesnor or switch first .
This could lead into major engine work.
