This video is to show how to do a compression test, but it will help with dis-assembly, and shows where all parts are located. The only thing I didn't see, was removal of the center cover above the plugs, ans coils. Kia Sportage 2001 Compression Test Definitely a help for plug, and coil change on 2001 Kia Sportage.
If it is a rear wheel drive predominately then yes you replace the front vac hubs only as the rear is constantly driving, is it a east west motor or north south , that will tell you a lot
there should be a low side vaule on top of the engine or bottom it is cover by a black cap that is the only way to put it in and u have to have the car running and on a/c full blast to put it in. Make sure ur compesser is working
SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE FAULT IN THE TCM OR PCM.THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT SOLENOID FAULTY. YOU NEED A GARAGE OR TRANSMISSION SHOP TO USE DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT TO LOOK FOR TRANSMISSION FAULT CODE SINCE TRANSMISSION IS TCM AND PCM CONTROLLED.
you are right in thinking this is a recall, are you in the US or the UK? this model did have a risk of fire and owners where recommeded not to put to much fuel in kep it to a minimum, the best advice I can give is what KIa stated, contact KIA and they will arrange for a garage near you. you can go to the kia website to see your nearset dealer and they should be able to direct you from there.
first thing is take it too another garage, that is way too much money too fix an overheating problem!!
now if you want too try too fix it your self you still need too find out just whats causing the problem,
like is it a bad water pump
,or stuck thermostat or blown head gasket, or electrict fan not working or a leak!!
after youe have found the problem,go too auto zone and get a detialed print out for free on how too fix it!!
and remember you will need the tools too do it also!!!
