Question about 1992 Chevrolet Corvette

1 Answer

92 LT1 corvette backfires, rough idle, and lurches when in drive. I changed the plugs, wires, coil, and not sure where to turn next, minus changing distributor flat pack. Any ideas? or tests I can do to narrow down the problem Thanks Patrick W.

Mojo, I changed the fuel filter and flushed the injectors, what a pain. However, same problem. I had heard that the MAF may cause these symptoms as well, but not sure? any further suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Pat

More then likely one of the engine sensors is going bad an giving the PCM bad info . A dirty mass air flow sensor could cause this problem . With a factory grade scan tool you could be able to tell .

Just changed the 2.5L engine in my 89 jeep wrangler and the engine turns over but won't start it just backfires like the timing is off, but thats not adjustable on this engine. Where did i go wrong?

Have you checked the firing order to make sure the plug wires are in correct order. Sometimes an engine will run but rough if 2 wires are mixed but it could be that there's more than 2 mixed up.

1989 corvette runs rough, wants to stall even after new plugs and rotor.

i want to give you the right answer but the only thing i think of is the mass air flow sensor.

Same issue with the rough idle with a warm engine 4.0 Ranger

i would think a plugged fuel injector on # 6 cylinder could be the problem,or a big vacuum leak at that cylinder
a valve burnt/stuck could be but you dont see much of that anymore
could be coolant leaking into cylinder from leaky haed gasket but you would have to add coolant every so often
i would check #6 cyl. spark plug after driveing around a while if it looks new, ie no deposits on it then an injector would be what i would change next

I have a 2005 Equinox that is idling rough and seems to lurch a little during driving. What could be causing this?

Check all under hood vacuum hoses. If it has over 90,000 miles since the spark plugs and wires were changed, replace them.

Having rough idle and backfiring!

Still have a wire crossed somewhere. That is why you are getting the backfiring. Recheck firing order and make sure it is correct.
