Disconnect the electrical connector to the AC compressor clutch and see if that stops the fuse from blowing, if it does the magnetic clutch closing coil is shorted and needs to be replaced

no it does not blow. What may be the culprit now...

(and I have another question-if it did can it be replaced while on the vehicle without it first having to be discharged?)

  • Kristina Wgner Jul 28, 2010

please list any other reasons it can be.... thank you

the problem is just as i said the field coil of the compressors magnetic clutch, this is the electrical coil that pulles the drive plate into the pulley and drives the compressor, it is shorted, it is the most common failure. here is a picture and part number of what u need to replace.

yes it can be replaced on the truck with discharging the system, but u may need a special puller to remove it, only the dealer has that or an AC repair shop

I have a 2002 pt cruiser that is blowing the ac 10amp fuse repeatedly. I mean within minutes of changing it. Also the ac is only blowing hot air. Can someone please help.

An AC system blowing hot air is usually due to a low freon charge or a non operational AC compressor. If the fuse blows, disconnect the compressor electrical plug and turn on the AC. If the fuse doesn't blow, suspect a compressor problem. If the fuse continues to blow with the compressor disconnected, there is a direct short between the ON/OFF switch and the compressor which can take hours to diagnose

Air conditioner blows hot but freon is full

Your compressor could be faulty. Check to see if it engages when you press the AC button with the car running.

99 Pontiac grand prix all my gauges on my dash quit working? was wondering if it could be a fuse or not? also my heater quit blowing hot air? what could cause that? it works sometimes when it wants to...

It could fuses for Gage's but for the hot air it could be you need theromastat or it could be that you need a new heater core or ac compressor

Could cluster fuse be prob why ac blowing hot? fan blows but hot air

Does the Compressor kick in when you turn on the AC? If it doesn't, the AC compressor is governed by the ECU. My AC went out along with an acceleration problem. hard starting, and unburnt fuel. I had my ECU rebuilt, and upon installation of the rebuilt unit, all worked perfectly again, including the AC.

Have the dealer check to see if the AC compressor cycling switch is stuck.

Where's the fuse for the AC on 98 Olds 88?

So what does the fuse that blows, protect?

You need a wiring diagram & start to test
the components most likely to cause a high
current draw & blown fuse.

Don't keep replacing it.

You know the fan control circuit works, but the
compressor doesn't stay on. Did you monitor
the compressor as the fuse blew?

May have a module for compressor & fan
If so one side failed
The compressor clutch could be bad

Has enough freon but still blows hot air, whats wrong with my air?

First you need to make sure your testing you ac when the car is on. If its still blowing hot air make sure you have the ac setting set and not the fan setting. If thats not the problem make sure the compressor in the ac is running it give off this distinct humming sound when the ac is turned on, you might need to put your ear next to it if you can find it. If the compressor isn't working check the wiring in the car, and make sure the fuse/chip for the compressor are fine.
