Question about Toyota 4Runner

1 Answer

4 Runner 1994. Auto transmission. A/T Oil Temp light comes on every time I drive past 70 mph on HWY. If driving below 70 mph it doesn't come on. I had the transmission oil flushed in shop lately and light still come on the same. Water pump just changed as well. Engine temp very stable - needle in center always - Now, I just found out that there's a few tiny holes on top of my radiator. Bit of engine coolant leaking out. Level of engine coolant still at max. Could that be related to my A/T Oil Temp light coming on? Anyhow, I'd like to figure out why the light come on and what to do about it. Also, should I change my radiator or is there an cheaper fix to clog the holes? I just found out that even cold my coolant liquid was gushing out of the rad when I removed the cap to check the level of coolant. Also I pulled the transmission oil stick and noticed that the level was well above the cool line - even well past the hot line. Does that help explaining part of the problem with the A/T Oil Temp light?

This light is the indication of engine getting overheat. it may indicate that the automatic transmission fluid is too hot.And yes if the coolant is leaking the car engine will get overheat.or if in-case the engine is not getting overheat then other parts like thermostat, oil temp, temp sensor this gets command to show error.Mostly the radiator hole repair will help to resolve the problem.Check all the things the radiator cap the radiator hoses and seal the hole so that the pressure gets created and not get released. As this hole in radiator is related to the oil temp light coming, but if resolving the radiator part does not solves the actual problem then the coolant line, coolant temperature sensor has to be checked. .If all the above mentioned possibilities checked out OK. Then Get the car scanned at diagnosis center. If the problem repeats again n again then its advisable to get car scanned at diagnosis center to get error codes, At diagnosis center you will receive the error code.As per the error code it will detect the exact faulty part in the car due to which the problem is occurring. For more help :--- at its absolutely free to get car scanned.
Thanks. keep updated for any more can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Transmission over temp light comes on. transmission works fine but once went into limp mode

have a pressure test done on the box to check for internal faults. Any high pressure leaks will cause heat. check the filter and while the pan is off adjust the bands and clutch packs . Check the radiator cores are not blocked as engine temperature will affect the transmission oil temperature . check oil level as extra oil will cause frothing and over heating.

IF it is an auto then check the transmission oil level as you may have blown an oil line. If it is ok then have a pressure test done on the gear box to check for an internal problem. Run fault codes and look for a torque converter servo failure

Cold auto Transmission won't shift into 3 gear until after driving 1 mile or so (driving at about 35 mgh) pickup then downshifts from 3 to 2nd then back to 3rd a few times untill I get to work (7 miles...

Sounds like a bad speed sensor. Perform an ODBII scan soon. ECU should delay upshift until coolant temp senses warm up. It will not work right unless a signal is present from speed sensor.

Try changing the transmission fluid and transmission fluid filter. It is a fairly easy but kind of messy job. Just buy the new fluid and filter, Grab your metric socket set and go at it. NEVER WORK UNDERNEATH A HOT VEHICLE. You have to pull the transmission pan to do this job. When you break the gasket seal several quarts (liters) of transmission fluid will cascade down on you. Be ready for it. Don't forget that when it stops draining there is still a lot of fluid left in the pan. When you finish cleaning up the fluid clean the gunk out of the pan. Install the new filter and reinstall the pan with a new gasket. Do not over torque the pan or filter bolts. If you strip them out or break them off you will need professional help to repair it. Refill the transmission with fluid. It should take six or seven liters.

You need to do a full service of the tranny. You need a filter change, and a fell flush of the tranny. Make sure you are using the right tranny fluid for it as well.
