Your alternator is not charging your battery. I could be the belt, regulator or alternator. You need to fix this as it will strand you when the battery is drained of power.

My tail lights are working, but my break lights are not on a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban

The first thing to do is go under the dash and test the brake light switch, with the brake pedal depressed you should have 12 volts going into the switch and 12 volts coming out. Use a 12 volt probe test light. Below is a picture of the brake on and off switch (BOO)

What does Volt mean if I was that on my 1997 Lumina and my steering is tight and hard to turn

Check your drive belts, volt mean alternator not charging, and by what your saying it's not a bad alternator but a broken or missing belts.

Car starts but volts light stays on 1996 chevy lumina

This usually indicates your altenator is not working properly and should be replaced.

You can confim this by hooking a DC volt meter to a power source and when the car is running you should see 13.6 volts (or more)

no Crank ???? try to put it in netural. possible safty switch, if no crank you will need to check the crank wire on the starter, ( The Small Wire) with a 12 volt test light, when you turn the key you should have a light. if so the starter Sol Assy has failed.... Hope this helps

When i brake my car cuts off a red volts light pops up after it cuts off

I need you to break it down more specifically. When does the BATT. light come on? Does the engine run smooth the whole time up to shut-down? Are the brake lights working properly? How many miles on the car? How are you with maintenance (oil changes, tune-ups)?

1996 and 1989 Jeep Grand Cherokee electric doors locks gave out.

better yet once you spray everything down with WD40, also spray everything again with white lighting lithium grease. The is one that is safe for plastics, be sure to choose the right one. This will help with everything moving without restrictions. Only after doing this, if there is not enough power, I would use a volt meter to be sure that there is enough voltage. Worst case, then change actuators (door lock motors).

Volt light is on just replaced battery 1996 lumina

Was the volt light on before or after you replaced your battery? If it was on before you replaced the battery, you might need to replace your alternator. You may also have some after-market items installed that are drawing more current than your alternator can handle.

you need a test light or volt meter to find out what it is. You have 12volts {or light on test light} when you touch the blue wire and moving the switch in the up posiion, And 12 volts on the brown wire when you push the switch down position.
